This issue fans keep seeing the MonsterVerse run into with WinGoji VS Gare/DougheGoji is that 2014 establishes Godzilla as neutral, but KOTM expands upon this by revealing him to be as heroic as he was in the 1960s/70s films. The comics and novelizations around the time double down on... this, & from 2014 until 2021, Godzilla was seen as primarily a HERO. But, in GVK, they emphasize that Godzilla will, almost at random (like in Hong Kong), go heel & destroy things, kill people that he could have avoided, & attack innocent heroic or neutral monsters for his own personal gain. Is it more like his Toho portrayal? Sure. But it abandons the progress and expansion of the character made in King of the Monsters. Oh, hey, I made a video all about this. I honestly don’t think Godzilla was telling Shimo to freeze Skar King here. In this moment as Kong had Skar King in his grip I really believe Godzilla was initially gonna end his life by beaming him, but Shimo saw what Godzilla was gonna do and decided to take it upon herself and be THE ONE to finish him off by freezing him. I think the editing here doesn’t exactly tell that and it made us think that Godzilla was roaring at Shimo to freeze him when in reality Godzilla was actually charging up to kill Skar King until Shimo interrupted him and used her ice beam on Skar King instead which would make more sense since after all that he as done to her in the past. I will stand by this idea.

I 100% get how people can view Godzilla as a "destroyer" in the current MV films. They say Godzilla's a good guy, while positioning him as the antagonist of GVK, having him kill civilians, having him kill Tiamat without cause, & having him go after Kong (the hero) once again in New Empire. It's very much a case of "show VS tell." They TELL us he's a "hero," the "key to coexistence," but didn't develop this post KOTM, opting to SHOW his more "neutral/aggressive" personality.

He a godly presence that was unfathomable, and yet somehow there was recognition and companionship in his eyes. 😭😭😭 Oh well. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters absolutely nails this on the head.

The residents of Isla De Mara were aware of the existence of Rodan resting in the Volcano. Perhaps there have been descriptions on how he looked like from local legends, but haven’t seen him in his full glory since I assume he hasn’t come out of the volcano and it was this moment right here where he makes his first appearance to the public. Monarch sealed the volcano with their version of a plug to contain the Titan from escaping. Mark Russell’s reaction here indicates he wasn’t aware of his existence or species and this is the first time knowing about Rodan. Perhaps Rodan didn’t need to leave the volcano from Isla De Mara since he could easily travel from one volcano to another through rifts? It makes me wonder if this part of Monarch also weren’t aware of another rift in Thailand where Rodan could escape? Or perhaps they weren’t aware that another Rodan was resting there? There could be just one Rodan? There could be TWO Rodans? We don’t know for sure. VFX supervisor, Sean Konrad’s comment could be interpreted as vague from his interview. A lot of questions that NEED to be answered in season 3 of ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’. I’m confident the writers will not retcon KOTM. Just as they did with the dream sequence of Godzilla in S2 of Monarch LOM, I’m sure they will have an explanation for Rodan’s appearance in Thailand back in 2017.

I took my 12yo grandson to see Godzilla Minus One in the theater. He was of course excited, but I was a little concerned because would it be too scary. The WHOLE MOVIE he was sitting forward in his seat, his hands gripping the armrests, staring unblinking, jaw agape. He was picking up on stuff I didn't get. But you need to know my grandson has an eidetic (photographic) memory. So I'm watching it, and there's a report that Godzilla is seen near Giza. Big deal I think, but my grandson gasps and says "Oh no!" Because HE had remembered that the girl got a job in Giza. But I had not. When it ended, I asked my grandson if it was too scary. He said, breathlessly, "No!" Then I asked him what was the best part, and he said, "Every part was the best part." I reluctantly had to say that despite my great love for the original 1954 movie, Godzilla Minus One beats it. Two other facts: 1) The IJN Takao was a real ship which survived the war. It even survived Leyte Gulf! 2) Godzilla Minus One cost less than $15 million. We could have made 25 of them for the cost of Avatar: The Way of Water. Or 15 for the cost of Wakanda Forever. Godzilla Minus One punked the American movie system so hard.

Like if you're Ralph Fiennes and you're playing Voldemort in Harry Potter, that's a villain. He's a supernatural version of evil. But if you're playing a human character, they have a point of view, and by making him intelligent, it was like an avenue for me to come at it in my own.. in a way that's unexpected. The trappings are what you want to be able to dismiss because they are so extreme, but if he is able to articulate himself; he has a forceful point of view, it becomes tricky because you are sort of going, "oh, I don't like this, but I hear where he is coming from."
