I never buy branded bags. I once asked bata why I have to pay to advertise them. I just picked my shoes and bought a 20 bob bag adjacent to their store. The were mesmerized 😂 I have done the same in Naivas. Luckily they have non-branded ones.

A branded bag is an item like any other you can buy from a supermarket. A person can walk in and just buy a bag and walk out. That means, they are right to sell it you and they actually don't force you to buy it. You are at liberty to come with your own bag or suitcase to shop.

Pre-2017 those black and blue polythene carrier bags that used to go for 5 and 10 bob were given freely by supermarkets upon shopping. I remember the most expensive one was that big yellow one and it was the only bag they were selling to customers for 20 bob.

Under capitalism that's a you issue, don't buy it... other people will buy it

I believe they brand them to improve the look & market themselves. They can have both options and indicate customers to make a choice of either.
