This looks like another step toward removing the data bottleneck in robotics. The bottleneck exists because recording demonstrations is easy, but labeling every grasp, hold, move, and release is slow and expensive. Perceptron Egocentric dropped a new robotics video annotation system. You give it raw robot-camera or first-person/egocentric video.... It gives back structured labels that look more like training data: where each small manipulation starts and ends, what the subtask is, what each hand is doing, where the hands are frame by frame, and which hand is left or right. So, Input: raw video of a person or robot doing a task. Output: a machine-readable breakdown of the physical actions inside that video. Basically, it is a machine that converts robot video into policy-training supervision. That means timestamps, subtask boundaries, per-hand actions, and left-right hand grounding. So this will turn large piles of robot or egocentric video into supervision for training robot policies.show more

Co-training has become a key part of the recipe for training large robotics models; it means that you mix some proportion of real robot data with other data sources, like simulation or egocentric human video data. This is especially important because robotics data tends to lack diversity which can be somewhat compensated for by the inclusion of these other modalities. And yet there has not been a sizable study on what constitute good practices for cotraining until now! We talk to Fanqi Lin and Jose Barreiros about their new work, a massive study which evaluated 89 policies over thousands of rollouts to tell us which forms of co-training were most useful for robotics. While human video is quite common, it’s not usually directly usable for robots for a variety of reasons, most significantly that it’s missing explicit, accurate robot actions. Instead, Jeremy Collins proposes that we predict keypoint trajectories — basically, how any given point in an object will move as a robot performs a task. This work makes a humanoid robot do simple parkour moves by looking with a depth camera and choosing the right move on the fly. The big deal is that it turns lots of small human moves into long, real-time robot behavior, without hand-coding every transition or retraining for each new course. A humanoid robot is usually good at steady walking, but it often fails when it has to do fast moves like jumping up, vaulting, or rolling, and then keep going to the next obstacle. The hard part is that you cannot easily collect training data for every possible obstacle shape, distance, and mistake, so robots end up learning a few moves that only work in a narrow setup. This work starts from short clips of real human parkour moves, like stepping over, vaulting, climbing, and rolling. It uses motion matching, which is basically a smart “pick the next clip that fits best right now” search, to stitch those short clips into a long, smooth plan that looks like a human doing a whole course. Then it trains a controller with reinforcement learning (RL), which means the robot learns by trial and error to copy that plan while staying balanced and not falling. After training separate expert controllers for different moves, it compresses them into 1 controller that uses only onboard depth sensing and a simple “go this fast in this direction” command. In real tests on a Unitree G1 humanoid, it can clear multiple obstacles in a row, adapt when obstacles get moved, and climb a wall up to 1.25m.

Describe your task and drop in a dataset, and it judges success/fail on each rollout with detailed subtask captions– it’s more accurate than Claude Opus 4.8, at a fraction of the latency. This is just the first step toward our larger goal: an autonomous evaluation rig for robot learning. Today, evaluating a robot policy means humans have to watch the robot roll out, mark success, and reset the scene– we're automating that, starting with the success judge.$

First FSD intervention by robot*irl in this interesting edge case The car is so slow and cautious around pedestrians/cyclists that it will just wait and wait and wait Granted, it’s a fairly unusual traffic situation with a driver in front of us interacting with a traffic supervisor and a lot of bikes around the car Human Pilot would’ve gone through here with ease, but the robot under supervision of robot*irl just doesn’t wanna move an inch What could be the issue here? You think this is safe and desirable behavior by FSD or does it feel like an imposed restriction and unnatural anxiety of cyclists?
