3 rules for young men for a happy, productive life. 1) Learn and master a skill or trade. 2) No gambling. No drugs. Take it easy on the booze. 3) Avoid entanglements with loose, immoral, and/or unstable women. That's it. That's the cheat code.

Facts. As someone who easily gets bored I've worn a few hats that I learned from the ground up. Went from baskin robbins ice cream scooper to head cake decorator, party supply stocker to party supply store owner. Restaurant server to general manager. Construction gopher to deck builder. Currently in nursing homes. Started as cook, now certified dietitian, working on Registered dietitian. Pretty sure this will be my last change as I am 55 yrs old now but I actually enjoy starting over. I can retire saying my life's been an adventure.

Is GENX the last true men? I just don't see the next generation understanding that. Perseverance and intestinal fortitude.

When I joined the Navy, I took every chance I got to learn more. I had limited myself because I had no self confidence. Fortunately the Navy gave me lots of opportunities. I just had to show up and try. After the Navy I went to work for Boeing. I did the same thing there. My name is forever on most of the wiring drawing on the 777, 737 and 757 aircraft. Not too bad for akid from a logging camp.

When I started construction in Las Vegas Nevada, I was making $13 an hour by the end of that year with that company I was making $18.50 an hour. Fast forward to today, I own my own company and make well over $225,000 a year not to mention the company pays for all my trucks all my cars and all my fuel. What you’re saying in this video is through persistence you will see the reward and I totally agree.

Piecework, I worked from the late 70s through the 80s as a carpenter in Southern California. I started when a contractor offered me a carpentry job. I said I don't know anything about carpentry. He said, "Don't worry, I'll teach you," and he did. All I had to do was yes, sir, no, sir, and show up on time. He taught a team of young men. He was strict; he would yell Don't think about it, nail it, and run with that board, boy. We worked on piecework, meaning the more you got done, the more you got paid. You learned to show up early, stay late, and skip the brakes, except for a quick lunch out of a paper bag. I did that for over 10 years. You learn not to make mistakes, to have all your tools ready, and to keep your mind sharp for the day's job. Every mistake, every delay costs you money; every mistake is a learned lesson. It would be great. If all kids work for one or two years at peace work, it'll teach them a lot. To this day, I still use the lessons I learned then.

I started doing paper filing. Then they got a mainframe and I learned that. Went to another job as a SysOp on mainframes. Then to another job for PCs, Network, then Telecom. Started at minimum wage and worked my way to 6-figures. Then retired at age 52 with nothing but a GED.

Basically, learn a trade and stop being lazy and knowledge can bring as much rewards you can handle!

I has a neighbor named Lou. When he was a young man, he took the welding test given to hire welders for the Alaskan pipeline. He failed miserably, but the tester was impressed by his enthusiasm and hired him as an assistant. They traveled all over testing welders and by the end of the circuit, Lou knew how to weld well enough to pass the test. His career eventually took him to higher management at Bechtel.

Yes! Trades are amazing. I own a commercial electrical contracting company and we start kids right out of high school at $18/$19 an hour. By then end of it if they work hard and become a foreman they can be making $35/$40 an hour.

HELL YEA!!! 👏👏👏👏👏 I was 15yrs old, 1 week shy of my 16th birthday. I made my mom drive me to EVERY PLACE in town that was hiring. I got a job at Wendy’s. It wasn’t much, but I worked every single day after school and on weekends (missing countless parties & trips with friends, who’s parents had more) to afford my 1st car. I worked so much, and so hard, never called out sick. When I graduated they wanted me to do the management program. I said no, but thank you for everything, I will be leaving soon. Got a job in sales after, never looked back. Traveled the country saw & experienced so much. I was the only woman salesperson in my field. I later became a stay at home mom (so grateful for that). But, I learned soooo much, and now my kids are successful adults because of that, and because of the success my husband has achieved as well. Work ethic is EVERYTHING. I always told them to be indispensable, and you will ALWAYS have a job. And yes…I AM GEN X, raised by Silent, my husband is a Boomer. I don’t know what happened after Millennial’s but it seems like we are F*cked!

I earned $11 an hour at first working as a behavioral health technician at a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility. There’s no amount of money in the world that could replace the things I learned and the experiences I encounter at that job. It’s not always about the money 💵

I started in property restoration 17 years ago pushing a broom on job sites. Didn’t know jack shit about what I was doing. But I worked hard, listened, and paid attention. Now I’m making solid 6 figures in the same industry. You have to be willing to pay your dues.

My boss was hiring EE graduates to repair slot machines. None lasted more than 2 weeks, shortest was 5 minutes after he stuck his finger in 50,000 volts... He let me do the hiring, I went for HS grads who wanted to learn and were not afraid to get dirty. 40% stayed, some learned!

@DameScorpio Unfortunately the last 30 years parents have been too lax about their job. They want to give them everything the kids grow up expecting everything. Your job is to raise them and prepare them for life. Tough love is hard but life is harder!

I got hired as a roofer in my 30’s, scared of heights, never worked on a roof. Started out $14/hr to be ground clean up. 6 months later, thanks to an old timer who knew his shit, took me under his wing. Taught me every skill I needed. I did shingled roofs & did hot tar roofing..😣and pitch removal…painful as hell, but was making $24/hr,time and a half on Saturdays.youcan learn to do anything.. after 4 yrs left to find a job suited to my passion. Am grateful to Jonsey who made me a damn good roofer. 💕💕💕🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
