He wasn’t lazy, never have been. He was too comfortable in the system and never thought about competing for a position in the squad. That’s where his problems came from.

You need to understand - he was always motivated for the first few games of the season, he was always motivated after he had been dropped, always motivated after an injury. But there was no consistency. He consistently ran less per 90 than the rest of the team. He rarely tracked back and when he did, there was no urgency to win the ball back. He's motivated now but I guarantee you that halfway through the season, that motivation will run out and he'll go back to being lazy. Extremely skillful guy when he's on good form, but that was always overshadowed by his poor work ethic. He would never fit in a United system that uses wingbacks and requires defensive discipline and he isn't technical enough to play as a 10. Good luck to him.
