In my view it was a historical mistake that made Ethiopia landlocked. Ethiopia is the world’s 10th most populous country with 135 million people and amongst the 5 largest economies in Africa with a GDP of US$556 billion (PPP). 3. The US$5.0 billion Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), is already completed and fully operational. It’s a hydro electric power dam (not an irrigation dam) which does not divert or reduce water flow to Egypt. If there are water flow concerns, they can be addressed by highly qualified technical experts from Egypt and Ethiopia, as has been done continuously. The GERD provides electricity to millions across Eastern Africa who previously lived in absolute darkness and is a clean, green renewable energy source which is environmental friendly.
