This time of year and throughout June, babies are often found out alone in the day, and here's why. Hedgehogs are nocturnal, but babies are born diurnal, meaning they can be awake in the daytime and feed from mum while she sleeps, and mum can go out at night to find food, knowing her babies will be safely sleeping. Isn't that so clever? This is baby Figgy and she's just 3 weeks old. Her eyes and ears opened a week ago, she's now able to lap, and she has little nubs of teeth starting to erupt. Everything is new and exciting at this age, and while mum is asleep babies like Figgy sometimes sneak out, to look around. Nosing around on brand new wobbly legs, learning how to scratch the itch of new spines growing through, and exploring a world of scents, babies usually quickly wear themselves out and safely return home to the nest. But now and again there's one who is just a bit too adventurous for her own good, and strays too far from the nest and can't find her way back home. So if you ever spot a baby out on the lawn, crying - this sounds like a little bird cheeping - please quietly approach and without touching or speaking just observe her for a minute. If she has any obvious injury or has flies attracted to her, immediately take her indoors and make up a hot water bottle with hot tap water, cover with a fleece and lay her on it, with another fleece covering her, then urgently ring a rescue (NEVER a vet) for advice. They will talk you through what to do. If she appears fine, with no flies, go back indoors (or an average garden length away, if she can't be seen from indoors) and just watch her from there for 20 minutes. Don't take your eyes off her, and be ready to quickly go out if a bird or animal goes near her. In most cases her crying will wake mum who will come out and carry her home. If you know for sure where the nest is, wearing gloves gently pick her up and quickly put her back as close to the nest as you can without disturbing it. If mum doesn't come within 20 minutes, go out and stand by the baby while you phone a rescue (NEVER a vet) and ask for advice. They will talk you through what to do. NB. This footage was from a couple of years ago and baby Figgy grew into a beautiful adult and was released back to the wild, and is still doing well.🥰

Baby ducks hatched on the farm this week while I was in DC! Momma had 12 eggs in the nest and 6 made it. It’s been a while since a momma duck pulled this off here. Frequently the nests get busted up by a predator, but this duck made her nest in our garden next to the house.

She went in thinking all of her memories of her late husband were gone... what she didn’t expect was this. That man touched her heart and her soul by doing what he did. She’s broken and he was able to pick up one of the pieces of that broken puzzle and put it back into place. His small act of kindness will give her immense comfort. He gave her memories back, he gave her peace of mind. He reduced her anxiety and her stress and her sadness with a small act of kindness and I think that is awesome. ❤️👏

Today, during community visits in my constituency, I met an incredible elderly woman who’s caring for over 15 orphaned and underprivileged children from her community — all from her own humble means. Her story is a powerful reminder that you don’t need to be a millionaire to make a difference. All it takes is a good heart, compassion and the will to act. Let’s all do what we can, no matter how small — every act of kindness counts.

Chained for 12yrs and left to go blind thru infection , she was finally tossed away like she was nothing 😡 Lara from Amores Peludos was picking up galgos from this Galguero and he said he wanted to get rid of her. He cut the chain, handed her over and didn’t even feel a thing … not even after 12yrs of being her owner. Could it be any sadder? Josefina is now with GDS and it’s possible to save her sight. Her eyes have been so badly infected for so long it won’t be easy and she will need an operation. The most important thing tho at this point is finding her a home to live out her last years. We made a little princess area in an old caravan but it’s not a home. For now tho it’s the best she’s had and she even got a bone 🍖 Please can we find her a home? Plz share 🙏🏻❤️

The woman panics and starts to drive off, she doesn’t feel safe sitting in that same spot now. She also notices that her mirrors are pushed in. She’s driving around the lot now looking for a spot to put her wipers down and pull her mirrors back out. Is she overreacting at this point or is it possible she’s right and they were waiting for her to get out of her car to fix the wipers?

This tiny New York City apartment, 80 x 150, goes for $650 a month! 🤯 She has no oven and her bed is up a ladder and there is about two to three feet of space from the bed to the ceiling. Her bathroom is actually outside the apartment down the hall. She has to walk past her neighbors to get to it. She goes up on the roof outside to get some space, do some work and maybe a little yoga. But get this, she has a dog! She said she sometimes leaves the dog in the apartment or she takes him to daycare. 🤔 I could not live like that. I could not sleep like that and I could not shower like that. And, I could not have a dog in such a small space. Many, many people said that she should not have a dog and should not be allowed to have a dog in such a tiny apartment. Do you think it is cruel to have the dog with her? Or , do you think that if the dog is getting love and fed, cares for and taken out, that’s her business? Have you ever seen a smaller apartment than this? Could you ever live like this?
