We’re launching the GOG Preservation Program – an official stamp on classic games that GOG has improved, with a commitment of our own resources to ensure their compatibility with modern systems and make them as enjoyable to play as possible. This initiative was created to make games live forever and once again bring the utmost attention to what the center of our work has been for the last 16 years: video game preservation. Heroes of Might and Magic III is easily one of the best round-based strategy games ever made. Considering all the greats from the 90s era, I think the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise is among the very, very top. Incredibly beautiful and detailed graphics, a wonderful soundtrack, and classic turn-based gameplay; all that made for perfect late night sessions that usually went on for way too long. It was the stereotypical "maybe just one more round" game that kept on going... if you've been there, you know. Heroes of Might and Magic is one of the longest living franchises in gaming history, now entering its 31st year, with the first release in 1995 and latest release in 2025 (Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era). If you were/are a turn-based strategy fan, I bet you played it. I miss New World Computing...

One of the best turn based strategy games of the pre-2000 ear that I ever played was Heroes of Might and Magic II (New World Computing, 1996). I lost count of how many times I finished the campaign, over and over again. Pretty much everything about this game is brilliant. The concept, the flow of the game, the graphics (very vibrant and colourful), the soundtrack (simply wonderful), the little RPG elements for your heroes, finding artefacts, the battle system, and the spells. I could go on, but I am sure anyone who played this feels pretty much the same. It's exactly the type of game I would pay money for to replay in a modern setting, with a map editor and the ability to add different units and attributes to each. The Heroes of Might and Magic series is one of the best ever, and I still always come back to number II.

If you remember our GOG Preservation Report, it ended with a simple call to action: preserve your materials, and share them with institutions that can keep them safe long-term. That idea wasn’t just empty words. Our Piotr Gnyp (Piotr Gnyp) reached out to legendary Polish developer Maciej Miąsik (Maciej Miąsik), and after conversations with The Strong National Museum of Play (@museomofplay, Andrew Borman), the archive of the iconic Polish studio X-Land found its permanent home there. This film tells how it happened – and why it matters. We hope more creators follow this path.

What a time to be alive, on America’s 250th birthday. And thank God President Donald J. Trump is our President. A man who truly loves this country. Over the past several weeks, from the UFC, to the Great American State Fair, to Mount Rushmore, and finally to last night’s celebration, we were reminded what American pride looks like. The most powerful moment was honoring the heroes of World War II, the young Americans who charged into a hail of machine gun fire on the beaches of Normandy to rid the world of fascism. To honor these heroes, many now over 100 years old, on our nation’s 250th birthday, is nothing short of remarkable. But this isn’t just about them, it’s about the legacy they left behind. They inspired generations of Americans, families like mine, and thousands of others, to put on the uniform and defend this nation. And as we celebrate 250 years of freedom, let us never forget those who never came home, the men and women who gave everything so America could celebrate another birthday. This celebration belongs to them, and so does our gratitude.
