✈️ This pilot flat-out refused to take off… even though the crew had already cleared the plane for departure. He had a bad gut feeling — oil pressure on engine #2 was trending up and the fuel system filter still needed replacing. He told the passengers straight up: “They...

One of the reasons I like having human pilots... ideally... with integrity. Do I like being late? No. But I'd rather that than have a problem midair.

Was on a flight about to take off. Engines came on. Turned off. On again. Off. I was ready to bolt for the door and demand to be let off, when the pilot announced pretty much what you just posted: The plane had been cleared. He would NOT fly that airplane. We all exited. A new plane was readied. All connecting flights were held. Always trust that still small voice.

While I applaud this pilot for doing the absolute correct thing, every pilot with a license has this requirement for pre flight safety checks as the #1 priority - a pilot who doesn’t should not have a license to fly anything.

That pilot used his professional training, his desire to live, and critical thinking skills around aircraft soundness to decide that he could not be forced to fly. Good for him.

Pilots are personally invested in the outcome. It would be nice if most professionals acted that way, but it's not a moral superiority - it's just reality.

The pilot is the ultimate authority on the airworthiness of the aircraft. His decision is final.

One of our crews had a transmission chip detector light go off signaling possible metal in the trans on a Bell 214ST Helicopter, I had them flush the trans twice and recheck per mfg manual he still felt off so myself and a pilot flew out with another bird and had them take that and passengers back while we took theirs, we were getting a little vibration but made it back, chip light came on as we were landing, ended up replacing the transmission a week later and sending it in for overhaul. Always better to be safe when flying passengers.

I was just on @JetBlue. Plane kept throwing a light for open cargo door. After maintenance checked that door was secure we taxied out to runway. Light came on again. Our pilot Captain Andrew said he didn’t like it and turned us around. Forcing maintenance to fix the issue.

If maintenace signed it off as OK (its multiple persons that signs it off), pilot should trust that. Maintenace knows the plane's guts better than the pilot. Pilot should not guess. Hope pilot gets sacked for refusal to work.

Absolutely, I’d 100% take a pilot like that over someone who prioritizes the clock over people. ✈️ That gut feeling isn’t just intuition it’s experience talking. Pilots are trained to respect the aircraft and their own judgment. The moment you ignore that inner alarm, you risk turning a manageable issue into a disaster.

Huge RESPECT..... That is how a Professional is suppose to operate, Pilots even more so because of the responsibility of People on board, himself, his crew and his Equipment. I would as the airline give him a significant raise in pay. 🙏 🙏 🙏

Yes. If the engine temp is trending up, there’s nothing to suggest that it’s going to drop trending up (although it might slow once you’re at altitude). Going into a 6 hour flight over water with one reliable engine if you already know the other one is having problems is nuts.

Given all the maintenance items that are tracked on a commercial aircraft, I doubt very much that a pilot, who flys in different aircraft all the time, would have a clue as to what maintenance items were due.

Rushing usually doesn’t work. You end up skipping steps that often are essential. Be it in a hospital or in a cockpit. Rarely will you hear; “I took 20 seconds to check the oxygen levels, and, finding them depleted, got full tanks so my patient would survive the transport.” Often you’ll hear: ohhh shit this tank is empty! I need to do something immediately, it’s an emergency! Guess which is the better bet.

@EricaRN4USA That’s very theatrical. Commercial airline captains get paid big bucks to make those decisions on every flight. You just do it and stay off the PA. No need to act it out in public.

#TeeBoonyakait #Hengmarkii #TeeHeng Heng said he came on live because he was worried he wouldn’t be free to do a live on Friday. P’Tee said he might be able to come on live after all. Heng: These footballers always love giving people hope. These footballers are so flirty. They like to say things first. They’ll tell you that you’re the only one getting the jersey and you’re like, “Oh my god, I’m the only one. You are the only one.” But that’s not true! P’Tee: Hey! We already cleared this up. Heng: Who the hell is that girl? Who’s the one who got the jersey? P’Tee : we’re gonna have to search high and low for her now. This is gonna be hard. We don’t even know who got it. We already cleared this up. We cleared it up. Did you see my tweet? Heng: I saw it. P’Tee: We talked it out between the two of us and cleared everything up. So why are you saying this? Heng: I’m just joking. I know. I understand. P’Tee: Apologize first for saying bad things about me. Heng: I never said anything bad about you. P’Tee: Just now! We already cleared this up between the two of us. Heng: I never said anything bad about you regarding this situation. I was just saying that you told me I was the only one who got the jersey. Everyone else was fighting over it. P’Tee: We already cleared this up. Why do you have to keep talking about it? It’s between the two of us. Heng: Okay, sorry. Forget it. P’Tee: Say it properly. Heng: Fine, I’m sorry. P’Tee: Say it properly. Make it sincere. Heng: I’m sorry. P’Tee: Your tone isn’t right. Your facial expression isn’t right either. Heng: I’m sorrryyy~

A pilot put a passenger jet down on a river and got every person on board off alive. Within days, investigators were asking him what he had eaten for lunch. He told them a tuna sandwich. Then they asked whether he had had a candy bar. Whether he had had a soda. That is not small talk. There is a precise reason those 2 questions could have ended his career, and Tom Hanks lays it out in about 4 sentences. The pilot is Chesley Sullenberger. Hanks played him, spent time with him first, and says the man walked him through the entire script telling him which parts never happened. As Hanks was told it, the stake was money. If the board could establish that the pilot did 1 thing wrong, the insurance on an airplane he puts at 17 million dollars would not have to be paid out. Every question in that room was built for that. It went on for the better part of a year. In the film it takes days, because films cannot afford a year. What was happening to him has a name in psychology. Baruch Fischhoff described it in 1975 and called it creeping determinism. Once you know how something ended, the ending looks like it was always coming, and every road you did not take looks like it was sitting right there, clearly marked, the whole time. Which is why the question "why did you not do this instead" is close to unanswerable. It is asked by people who know the ending, to a person who did not have it. There is a second effect underneath, well documented in aviation and in medicine. The person at the centre of the investigation frequently comes out of it in worse condition than the people he saved. Researchers gave that person a name. He is the second victim. Hanks is 67 when he says this, and what he admires is not the landing. It is a distinction he makes in 1 sentence near the end, and it is the whole reason he told the story at all. He saved everyone on that plane. Then he spent a year proving he had not eaten a candy bar.

Tracy McGrady says he leaned on Kobe Bryant to manage his $5,000,000 rookie contract and the NBA lifestyle at 18 years old “I never felt like I had it under control. Ever. I was trying to control it the best way I possibly could because I didn’t have the knowledge.” “I’m young. I didn’t have the knowledge. I’m just maneuvering through this shit by trial and error, just trying to figure it out as I go.” “But having Kobe at the time, I could pick up the phone, call Kobe, because he’s somebody that I leaned on religiously at that time. Very intelligent person. Very grounded. His structure and my structure are totally two different structures.” “I needed to have that conversation and learn from him, who had the structure and had the intelligence to help me maneuver through this shit that I know nothing about.” “I could just pick up the phone and call my man and be like, ‘Yo, I’m struggling with this. What should I do?’ And he was so gracious enough to give me the game. That was through our whole career.” “Everything, bro. We talked about everything. I stayed with him. At his house in L.A. Just to have those conversations, man, it really got me through a lot. I’m not even just talking about basketball. I’m talking about having money and having to deal with family and maneuvering through all of that.” “I didn’t know how to deal with that. Kobe grew up in this. He’s got the blueprint. This shit is all a blank canvas for me. And I’m trying to figure it out.” “Even from a mentality standpoint, how you approach games, how you work out. I don’t have any of this. I ain’t really work out until I got to the pros.”
