We’ve all flubbed a chip, especially out of the rough. Look closely at the error here which caused the crumpled finish and poor contact. The body (engine) stopped rotating, so the handle created too much shaft lean making front edge “stick” in the rough. The clubface was too square all along which added to the issues. Keys out of the rough are, 1. open the clubface, 2. keep the ribcage rotating and 3. allow a hint of trail hand release to encourage the club to “skid”. There seems to be a trend of steepening the plane and attack angle on chip shots. Whilst that is a style that can work off wet and fluffy lies, it’s much harder of tighter turf. As soon as it’s so steep you bring in redirection of the club which affects turf interaction. I align with the philosophy of Brett Rumford and Parker McLachlin on these shots with the style being less steep and a stable ulnar/radius angles. The club then skids and with a slight body raise at impact the player can pick it off most conditions. 👍🙏👌🏼⛳️ (vid Skratch) (No disrespect to players featured, they are incredible champions and those lies are tough)

Thought you might find his interesting…..we see many great players “falling left” as they approach the top with an iron. The body stays turned and shifts left then puts the brakes on by rotating and extending at impact. This helps pressure in the ground and get shaft lean at impact. All good things. Slightly different with driver as you wanna keep the upper body back more to hit up on it.

As requested by Alex Miller yesterday, a look at our out of possession shape in the first half. 1: (10 secs) - Wednesday in a very narrow high block in a 523 out of possession. It only looked like this when the ball is central. Nowrich rotate (change positions during play) a lot and this narrow block denies central rotation. In this clip, they have had rotation in left back position as the CM has dropped into the area and left back on the last line. 2: 20 secs - When the ball went wide or started to move wide, the full back would advance up the pitch to pressure the full back and press full back to full back, whilst the CBs would come out with the Norwich forwards coming in between the lines, as this ball transitions across the pitch you see Sargent come out and Iorfa following tight. Fusire in this clip has come out to mark full back to full back and creating a makeshift back 4. 3: 47 secs - Wednesday get back into their narrow block shape 4: 56 secs - rotation from the front line form Norwich 5: 58 seconds, Palmer comes out of the back line to pick up the rotation and prevent space between lines. As the player turns to our left, Amass starts to come out to pick up full back to full back on the other side. In summary, Wednesday played their familiar 523 blocking shape out of possession but it was much more proactive in the back 5 than we usually see it, with full backs and Cbs following rotations and stepping out of the backline to prevent space between lines. But that's why you should train it If you can do this & strike the ball solid, you should be hitting the ball pretty good with both hands on the club Try it out & post your attempt in the comments 👊

One of the best “classic” swing styles you’ll ever see. Geometry, sync and efficiency are pretty perfect. Many of my ideals in it. None of this contrived, complicated match-up stuff that many are throwing into the game. Club works up simply (not too much arm depth), lead wrist slightly flexed, trail side and arm plane shallow in transition, body opens and sidebends at impact. All in a second with very little thought. Stunning and a joy to watch and study. So much great footage coming to my Youtube on this.

He always had a good feel to hit, but Max Clark's bat-to-ball (and swing decisions) have leveled up this year. Particularly against breaking balls. Contact% against spin is up by 20% to 85%. Bringing the hands higher with a narrower, more open setup is yielding great results.

A Big problem with many young kickers on kickoffs. A wide angle takes away from linear power and directional control. The tendency coming from the soccer field to kicking a football is to swing across your body. I see too many kickers really wide in their approach and yet they still kick the ball back to the left with the right foot. Notice how NFL kickers when they’re kicking the ball to the right are still not even as wide as some young kids are that are just blindly kicking the ball down the field, and more than likely expecting to pull it to the left. Then when they land on their follow through, they continue to trip over themselves for several steps because their swing is counterproductive to their bodies momentum

How do you play the uphill lie? There are actually a couple of ways you can do this. You can go with or against the slope! 1: With the slope (great for longer clubs as they’re generally shallower into contact) - Ball position, normal or even slightly further forward - ⁠ spine angle, approximately perpendicular to the slope - ⁠ The ball will go really high so club up 2: Against the slope (I like this better for shorter irons as the swing is steeper and we’re looking for solid contact just like Karol) - ball position further back - ⁠ Lean on front leg - ⁠ The through swing will probably be more of a punch style because of the slope Which one would you do? After the round, he went deep on the ball flight laws and the importance of matching up the club face to the swing path: “It's a good question. It's just tough to answer. First of all, that's why I like TrackMan and understanding the ball flight laws are very good to have because you can start a ball left, more left than you would like, but if it's curving back, who cares. That just means you're -- granted, if you're hitting it in the center your club path is just maybe creeping a bit more left, but if your face is in the right spot you're just hitting a bigger curve and then you can adjust that accordingly. “If you're starting the ball left and it's going left, is it a face issue, are you striking it off the heel and they're not coming back? So Emeka, at full speed, has to flip his hips and square up to the ball in mid-air. Should have been caught, but curious if Baker thought EE would feather his route a bit wider at the top or was it just a ball that sailed on him a bit?
