Under Title 10, they’re authorized to protect federal buildings, federal agents, and temporarily detain threats until law enforcement arrives. That’s not martial law. That’s not a Posse Comitatus violation. That’s called following the law.

For additional context this was a Army Veteran that was trying to cut through the secured area instead of having to go around through the rioters. When he was released he told a reporter that he knew he was wrong and the Marines were doing their job and acted extremely appropriately.
