In particular, the scene where the Witch-king breaks Gandalf’s staff is entirely a film invention. The Witch-king neither possesses that kind of power nor the authority to do such a thing in Tolkien’s writings. However, it is worth remembering that during the Siege of Gondor, the Witch-king had been specially empowered by Sauron. This is likely one of the main reasons he was bold enough to challenge Gandalf in the first place. What are your thoughts on this scene?
