Garp even tries to use the government excuse by telling Mihawk he works for them. And Mihawks response perfectly encapsulates his position as a Warlord “I would still do precisely as I want. No more and no less.” He does not have this position out of necessity, he uses it for his own quality of life. He was using the WG for his own benefit and they sat by and let him do it for years.

I probably talked about this before but the way Oda is going about black blades I think is much better and makes much sense than just handing them out to top tiers. The thing is, there is already a metric in place to make the connection. To give Mihawk a seat at that table. The fact that Yoru is a supreme grade weapon like Ace and Murakumogiri. Supreme grades are already more rare than conqueror's haki as it stands. Now if Xebec and Roger had black blades as well then there's no real way to make that distinction for Oda or to be able to make the argument that Mihawk has gone beyond what they were capable of. We would see these guys continue to get the benefit of the doubt, because even though they would be black blade users alongside Mihawk, they would still be seen as his superiors because of the era they lived in and who they shared the seas with. But the black blade the way Oda wrote it, lets us have a different conversation because it transcends eras.

Peter Thiel’s advice to his younger self: "Value substance over status.” One of the resolutions I came up with a number of years ago was to always value substance over status, substance over prestige. And if I was giving my younger self advice on what to do or how to think about one's life, I probably would still go to Stanford, might still go to law school. But I'd ask a lot more questions: why I was doing these things? Too much of it was driven by prestige and status, and not quite enough about really the substance of trying to learn things. I sort of think of it as this sort of crazy rolling quarter life crisis, and a sort of culmination in this big New York law firm where from the outside everybody wanted to get in, from the inside everybody wanted to get out. I lasted seven months and three days. And when I left, one of the people down the hall said, it's so reassuring to see you leave, Peter. I had no idea it was possible to escape from Alcatraz. And all you had to do was go through the front door. But people's identities get so wrapped up in the things they compete for that it was inconceivable for people to actually do that. And then the question was, how had I ended up there? Why had I not thought about that more? And I think it was that I had taken too many of these shortcuts of valuing what was prestigious, what was conventional, over what I really wanted to do. So I think always substance over status.

She was quoted $2,600 by a professional tree trimming company. This man was referred by a friend and he knew it was a lot of money so he told her he would do it for $650. He made two trips to the dump and used a pole saw. Some are saying $650 was too much for the too little he did. Do you think $650 was a fair price in helping out that woman?
