@HenryRiley1 I've just put mum in a care home at 76. 6.5k a month. Fees go up around 7% a year. With house sale, pension and savings I have calculated we can afford between 8-11 years. Her dream was to leave us a pension pot but absolutely no chance

@HenryRiley1 my mum died of a covid in a care home cost nearly 200k i lost all my inheritance, I tried so hard for her to live with me and was worst time. the care home took her flat, uk does not care.

@HenryRiley1 Not sure how I feel on this one, the reason family homes stayed in the family in eras gone by, is because kids looked after parents. If this guy did, he would still have his house. Are we really suggesting more taxation to solve this ?

@HenryRiley1 I can't imagine this care bill covering a 8k a month care home. Will likely only cover the fees for a very cheap care home. I know from personal experience a care home a relative was placed in was costing £900 a week.

@HenryRiley1 With all due respect, I disagree. If I or my husband requires care after the other has already shuffled off, house will no longer be needed for me to live in. It will be sold & proceeds used for the cost of my new (care) home. No need at all to keep another "residence".
