As long as Admiral Ahmed Hurre Hariye and the Somaliland Navy and Coast Guard remain vigilant, Somaliland’s maritime domain will continue to be secure and well protected. The reality on the ground speaks for itself. Somaliland enjoys stability and security compared to other regions that continue to suffer from conflict and instability, such as Sudan and areas where Islamist political movements have had a strong influence. Security is not built on slogans it is built on strong institutions, capable leadership, and a firm commitment to protecting the nation and its people.

Happy 26th June to all those in Somaliland who are celebrating 65 years since independence. Given that Somaliland’s President Cabdiraxmaan Cirro recently once again called on the international community to recognise Somaliland as an independent country, I would hope this would be considered in Ireland. I will continue to raise this in Ireland so we can have the discussion about recognising Somaliland as an independent country. #Somaliland #Ireland
