this song never gets old

One of the best ever, captures a moment in time we will never get back

Since I grew up in Southern California but now live in Northeast Ohio, I regularly play this song in the winter. Especially this winter!!

California Dreaming The Mama's and the Papa's Nobody is dreaming about California now. LOL

It’s a great song but when I’m alone and this comes on it creeps me the fuck out. It was written in C minor so it doesn’t have that sunshine pop that you associate with songs from California. Also that deadpan call and response vocals adds to the uneasy feeling, there is no vibrancy to the voices. Add in the bleak lyrics about brown leaves and gray skies and you feel an uneasiness like in the beginning of a horror movie. Not to lay out my psych issues on X but just curious if anyone else feels this way.

Original lyrics were “I got down on my knees, and I pretend to pray…” but apparently for TV/radio, the producers didn’t want to make it sound as aggressive as the song really is.

I rate California Dreamin' as the 3rd best sunshine pop single from the 60s.

Such a unique song too. It is sad as fuck that after a great 50 year run from the 60s to the 10s modern music has become so homogenized and soulless.
