Today, they open under concrete blocks, steel barriers, police rifles, bag searches, and a constant, uneasy tension. And everyone knows why. Years of uncontrolled mass immigration, porous borders, and political cowardice have created a security environment where a simple evening at a Christmas market requires fortifications worthy of a military base. Berlin still carries the memory of the 2016 truck attack, when a man rammed through the crowds, turning a place of joy into a scene of grief. The response ever since has been the same: more fences, more checkpoints, more fear. This is the new “normal” in Western Europe, not because societies suddenly became fragile, but because leaders refused to protect them. Meanwhile, in Central and Eastern Europe, the picture could not be more different. Walk through Christmas markets in Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, or the Czech Republic, and you’ll find no fortresses, no barricades, no suffocating security protocols. You find families. Choirs. Nativity scenes that haven’t been censored. You smell mulled wine, not anxiety. Why? Because these nations made a choice. They rejected mass, uncontrolled immigration. They defended their borders. They protected their Christian heritage instead of apologizing for it. And, inconvenient as it may be for Western elites, the result is simple: safety. While Western governments debate “living with the risk,” Eastern Europeans live with actual peace. They go to Christmas markets the way people used to, unafraid.
