This tiny ESP32-S3 packs an impressive amount of hardware into 24mm. The M5Stack ATOMS3R is a tiny IoT controller built around a dual-core ESP32-S3 running at up to 240MHz, with 8MB Flash and 8MB PSRAM. It also has a 128×128 color display, BMI270 6-axis IMU, BMM150 magnetometer, programmable button... and IR transmitter, plus USB-C and expansion GPIO. At just 24 × 24 × 12.9mm and 6.8g, this is small enough to disappear inside the project you are building. You can program it with Arduino, ESP-IDF, PlatformIO or UiFlow2, so it is a pretty capable little platform for embedded and IoT experiments. Just like this beaver, you can give the animal different sticks and it will build a different dam, but it will always build a dam. And you can give humans different "education," but the human will always use it to do what its genes tell it to do. This is the first big answer that you need. This is the biggest piece of the puzzle. This is how to understand people 90% of the way. You just... notice what they do, and get out of the way, and watch them do it. And if they need sticks, you give them sticks. And if you don't like what they do, you have to get away from them. We are preparing a dedicated ATOM S3R Bust together with a magnetic bracket that holds the ATOM unit in place. The STL files for both will be released for free. Windows XP is just for fun, but the ATOM S3R itself can be programmed in C++ using the Arduino IDE to do considerably more useful things. You could give your Smart Doll a voice through ChatGPT or Xiaozhi AI, attach sensors such as cameras and environmental detectors, or experiment with practical applications such as fall detection and sending alerts when an elderly person at home may need assistance. I gave Claude a 2D sprite sheet of a and asked it to generate the atlases, and the agent in Spline took care of writing a shader that runs the loop at the right speed and binds it all to the keyboard. An old-school game with the advantages of 3D. Super promising. This is really just the basics here (an Idle and a Run state) but you can add jumps and build on it.

So the way to expand compute without, you know, using up all the land on Earth is to do so in space. And then you can do it without using space for power and water on Earth; you can just do it in space. So I think we’ll probably be launching our first AI satellites next year, and then we’ll be able to do that, I think, at large scale in about two years.”
