My sinhala tuition teacher never beat anyone or singled out a person for scolding, but talked in a similar language towards the entire class. The "dirty language" he used is part of the marketing campaign for his class (he said so himself 😄). The language itself I don't have a problem with (it's even quite funny at that age: locker room talk 😉), but it is the singling out of a student that is problematic here.

This teacher says to his students that he will never remember what grade you got when you leave his class. But, he said he will remember the kindness that certain students showed to other students. He gives two examples of children that were alone or loners and two students taking the time to go out of their way to sit & talk with them to help make them feel like they weren't alone. I wish all teachers cared this much. Our system gets so caught up in the smartest students, the best athletes, the most popular kids and they seem to garner the most attention and favoritism. It's the quiet students, the loners, the awkward ones, the ones who don’t have friends that need attention and help in my opinion. Well done sir. Bravo. 👏 I wish more teachers had your mindset. There is hope yet for our educational system.

Back in 2023, Pierre Poilievre sounded like a bleeding heart liberal, publicly backing protesting international students, saying he would "join the protesting international students… we need these students… they should not be deported, let them stay..." Criticizing him for his stance then is fair, but a more productive question now is: What happened to those students and other temporary foreign workers? Have they been deported to India, or are they still here out of status and therefore in Canada illegally, taking away jobs from Canadians? He and his party should push the current government to answer that question.

I honestly can’t wrap my head around this. When the students refused to stop, the class teacher actually allowed them to fight it out instead of stepping in. That feels like a total breakdown of responsibility and safety. Do you think the teacher was overwhelmed and out of options, or should there always be consequences for letting something like this happen?

Ontario's schools need more adults. We need more EAs and more educators in our schools to keep students safe and help them learn. Children in Grade 6 were in Kindergarten when the Ford government took office. EQAO scores are on their watch, and this government is failing our kids. That is why Ontario-Liberals are calling on the Ford government to invest $1 billion in new education funding so boards can hire the staff students rely on every day. Students should not have to pay the price for underfunding. It is time to give them the support they deserve.

When the federal government FINALLY cut international student permits, the colleges lost their cash flow overnight. Ford needed to bail them out. So he slashed student grants. Then RAISED tuition. And blamed the students. Ontario students from low-income families now get 75% of their aid as loans instead of grants. This means more debt & less support. All to bail out institutions that Ford’s own government failed to regulate. He blamed the kids for the problem the system created. He’s not a real Conservative.
