This video tanks Billy Squier's musical career for a while after it was released - a long while - which is too bad because it's a banger song. I saw him in concert two or three times and it was a great show every time. Thing is, this video... is just 42 years ahead of his time. And it's still better than all the music they're putting out today. And one more thing - men wore make up, had long hair and danced like this in the 80s - the younger kids haven't discovered anything new, but GenX did it better.show more

Every Sunday evening on @KSHE95 they play whole albums. They just played Squier's first and I can't believe how many hits were on it. He's underrated.

I saw him in '82 in San Diego. Def Leppard opened for him; they rocked the house. Billy Squire's on-stage antics were so flaming gay it was a huge turn-off for the crowd. On the other hand... that was probably the last time Def Leppard ever opened for anyone... what a great show!

Everyone thought he was a closet homo after this, and it destroyed his rocker image.

I loved the song but sat there with my mouth agape seeing the video on MTV (remember when videos were on tv?!) Probably what kept me from buying the album.

I bought the album before the video was released. It's a great album.

In the late 70's & 80's, everyone was pretty much "gender fluid". They just didn't cut off their junk or boobs. We were smart like that.

I read a long article about the making of this. And how it was all his idea and everyone involved knew it was a disaster and couldn’t believe he was doing it.

I had George Michael posters on my wall. Had zero clue. People just didn’t talk about sex, religion, or politics much in the open then. If they had, I’d have saved a lot of allowance money. My wall wouldn’t have had as many pin holes… 🤣 I’d have still bought the music though.

If you just heard this song, and know it, from the radio...you'd say it was a decent song. But this video. This is the 2nd gayest video of all time.

I remember the day I saw this on MTV and thought “well, that was gay.” Not Poison Bret Michaels gay, just gay. I can see why it tanked his career back then. Too bad, because I agree, it’s a great song and he wrote some amazing tunes I still blast today.

Nobody male wanted to see this shit. He alienated half of his audience. Beavis and Butthead would have said: "This Sucks".

This video flew in the face of what his fans expected of him. He was a rocker and he was really good at it. It didn’t make me like him less, but yeah, when I first saw the video, I was WTF is this? It was a stark departure from who he was.

Nope. Nope.. I was in high school when his Don't Say No album was released. A fantastic fantastic album. MTV was still in it's youth when Billy put out this video. Everyone was watching. What doomed him was all the prancing. Men don't prance. Rockers do not prance.

I always wondered with this one if Billy Squier, who was at the height of his fame, didn't piss off the director and/or crew. It is like the video version of Dennis Quaid in Great Balls of Fire. In both cases, it is difficult to believe that people weren't on the set knowing this was going to be a trainwreck.

I saw Billy Squier about five years before he became well known when he was the lead singer for a group called Piper. His talent was evident even then.

I saw the Emotions in Motion tour at Cobo hall in Detroit, Nazareth was the opening band.

I went to see in 1982. I was SO excited. He opened for Queen, who I couldnt care less. I was too young for them, didn’t know their music and I remember thinking Freddy Mercury was weird. I could kick myself now that I didn’t appreciate that I saw freaking QUEEN in concert!

I saw him with Asia (opening) in the early 80s. I don't remember seeing the video but it's no different than anything else on MTV at the time. I do remember the last time I watched MTV, but for the life of me, I can't recall the song. It seemed sacrilegious & I was done.

It was the Wild West of MTV in the early 80s.

Yeah, that was just about the cringiest video ever made. I thought it was his "coming out" video.

I lived through his squalling in his songs, and I guarantee you that this video was as cringeworthy then as it is now. So ghey!

This video is uniquely awful. It completely misses his core audience and makes him look silly. If you told me this was a parody that appeared on SNL or MadTV, I would believe you. In fact, Squier, after seeing the finished product, asked his record label to bury it. He knew.

The book “I want my MTV” has an entire chapter dedicated to this video and the fallout. The chapter is called, “A whopping steaming turd, The worst video ever made”
