That's good and great. Whether or not your dog needs it - or any dog for that matter - if used properly it's not bad/harmful/abusive. And there ARE dogs who need it. Who can't be reached. Call a random trainer with a few years of experience using these collars, especially one that volunteers with animal shelters/foster dogs, and ask them how many dogs they saved from euthanasia using an e-collar. Owning dogs =/= expertise in dogs. Most people own dogs and don't know what they're doing. If chihuahuas were overnight turned into stronger/larger forms of themselves, they would sky rocket to the top of most dangerous dogs, because people think tiny little dogs don't need the same level of obedience training, they get babied, etc. Just you saying that you've had a few Rotties and that makes you 100% certain these tools are unnecessary shows how little you know about dogs.

I've worked in large classes w/ the same brand of tool. Yes, they don't give the juice to *shock* to a degree of damage, but you can absolutely still overdo it. In the vid you're running cover for, the dog does NOT exhibit hyperreactive behavior and is clearly being over-stimmed

1. Dogs are kids. Sometimes they need to calm down and you can't tell them "take a nap" so you give them the command place and you correct if they move. He gave the place command. Keeping them accountable helps teach them coping mechanisms when they want to do something they shouldn't be.

Did you watch the video? Your first/second questions are answered in the first 8 seconds. The tightness of the collar doesn't matter. It needs to be tight enough to have contact and to not move so it doesn't cause irritation moving around all day. The last one is speculation.

Don’t care I completely understand the e-collar but five hours on place is excessive and not once did he interact with his dog until it stepped off its bed to shock him. Use a kennel or don’t have a dog as your prop. My dogs get to move around lay by my feet and bathroom breaks.

Well, I clearly have nothing better to do today. 2:05:00 - 3:50:00 she's gone. 4:30:00 - 4:52:00 (stream end) she's gone. She's a dog breed that requires a lot of rest. Now, I don't watch him, but she plays right before stream for two hours a day. He used to stream him playing with Fish in the mornings, so there's no reason to think he's lying about this. To my knowledge - considering the discourse - this is the first time we've seen him correct her on stream. So the rational assumption, with this stream and the other recent streams, is that at this moment he wanted her in place - which is a good thing to do for a dog after they've had a long workout, it helps them decompress - and that normally she is free to wander in and out as she pleases.

Five hours? Excuse me my four dogs are great for two hours with a Kong or bone for 2 hours while I watch a movie but anytime longer there are in a kennel not free ranging. Not once in over 30 years have I had to use an e collar. That’s a tool saved for extreme cases.🙄

1. He's not, see below. 2. He gave the place command. This is an appropriate correction for stepping off. Place teaches a dog self-control and self-regulation.
