I’ve always loved this design for the alien ships. This movie still holds up

It's quite something- how forward thinking the book and movie really are.

the 4k disc is amazing. I totally love Technicolor movies. Nothing compares

it will sadly never be made in this vision though :(

My favorite alien invasion movie. I grew up watching this movie. I had the VHS, and then the DVD. Every scene, piece of music, and sound effect is engraved in my brain. The 4k version is incredible. The enhancements from Skywalker Sound are the cherry on top.

This is the best presentation of War of the Worlds. The design of the Martian war machines is simply incredible

A little trivia: The 2 lead actors, Gene Barry & Ann Robinson, who starred in this 1953 SciFi Classic happened to make a cameo appearance at the end of the 2005 remake.

Best sound effect ever

And it remains an amazing film on so many levels to this very day.

Great movie

I'm definitely enjoying this for Halloween this year.

One of the movies, late night CBS, that pulled me into SciFi and Horror

The film was a cinematic milestone that won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. Produced by science fiction pioneer George Pal and directed by Byron Haskin. revolutionized the genre by shifting sci-fi from cheap "B-movie" pulp to an A-list spectacle.

One of my very favorites. Way ahead of its time. And, it was released in the year I was born.

Ahead of its time

I love this movie. I know the cylinders aren't the same as in the original but I loved them. The sound of the eye and the heat ray were awesome. I wished I liked the newer version but it sucks compared to this one. I love old SiFi.

I remember and at the end when they fired on the church all the machines started falling to the ground ,

George Pal flicks are so underrated... all of them have this love of movie magic that is completely absent today...

@dcb_notDBCOOPER Grocery store parking lot 2026. Are the Martians still here?

And far better than the remakes...imo.

George Pal's War Of The Worlds. Gene Barry instead of Tom Cruise. Good effects considering that there was a lot of practical effects and no such thing as CGI!

“LET ‘EM HAVE IT!”

As a kid one of my very favorites, and you know what, those effects still hold up pretty damn well even today!

"Guns, tanks, bombs! They're like TOYS against them!"

This was made in 1980.

Stupid useless trivia Both Gene Barry and Ann Robinson cameo at the end of the 2005 remake as the grand parents

It’s a really beautiful film. I do love the sound of those alien ships firing.

My dad had this on VHS. We watched it so many times.

Probably my favorite movie growing up along with Jason and the Argonauts. Clever workaround by George Pal with the force-field tripod legs. 👍 Trivia: Dr. Clayton Forrester (Trace Beaulieu) of MST3K was named after Dr. Forrester (Gene Barry) in this film.

Great movie

Tragically the bacteria win and humanity survives

Great movie!

Awesome

Still a Masterpiece 73 years later.

Why have the top one when they have the side ones?

That’s crazy. I was literally just thinking about this movie earlier today.

It really did away with the whole tripod thing though. I always wondered as a kid why they never moved up or down that much. Confusing
