Still holds up to this day! Alien (1979); one of my favorite sci - fi cosmic horror movies!

And we still don't have spaceships that look like this.

I saw it the night it premiered. It was electric.

I was taken to see this at night…when I was 10. I did not sleep correctly for 2 weeks.

Scott and editor Terry Rawlings were at the top of their game here. What film now could hold for nearly an hour before revealing the actual threat and still manage to be spellbinding? Art direction, production design, cinematography, sound effects editing, musical score, cast…all in the zone. This was a high water mark for the horror genre; it managed to be visceral, primal and simple while also providing so many layers of interpretation and metaphor WITHOUT being overtly political. What do we have now? Middlebrow offerings like Sinners and Weapons being hailed with Oscars. Smh.

Right here is when everything changed. Anyways this film is a Masterpiece⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Scream not working because space make deaf

Is that all you can say is right?

No CGI required. Kind of like we forgot how we landed on the moon.

Saw it at the theater when it was released. I was high, so when the creature popped out, and I flew out of my seat!

And I saw it at the theater then, too 😱

Alien is one of the top ten

What's amazing is that Ridley had a tiny budget of $11 million to work with yet he and his people made this convincing environment.

Wife and I started watching about an hour ago (hadn't seen your post)...what an incredible movie. We actually said to one another, "One of the best horror movies ever."

Egyptian Theater, Opening Day, first show. Ridley Scott was there & signed my program. Packed house, when the kitchen scene happened, it was bedlam. Brett looking for Jones had me jumping at shadows & again with Ripley inching down the corridor to the shuttle. Best day ever.

Teenage me wanted to see it so bad. Too young for a car, no money. I hopped the fence of the local drive-in theater and sat on the ground on an empty space between cars. I could hear the sound just fine from all the little speakers around..

Beautiful film, and scary as hell

absolute perfection.

the 70s were by far the best decade for movie making (well.. around 68-83..) The experimentation with techniques and styles was huge... still filmed on film.. and people cared about their product. Not just money grabs. Plus.. My all time favorite horror movie..

Chills every single time what cinematography

The best!

Brilliant. I saw this when it first came out and it blew me away! What they got wrong however is that any ship this advanced would be crawling with robots (not just Ash disguised as a human) and you have to wonder if it would need a human crew at all. I would certainly have sent a robot to explore the abandoned alien ship 😂

The film is amazing BUT if it wasn't for HR GiGER.... ehhh

Fun fact, this is the way it is because Ridley wouldn't stop having sets built even when he was told to stop. If there was any money and spare plywood laying around, another hallway was gonna be built whether the producers liked it or not.

Love this! Thanks for posting the clip.

Brilliant set design. CGI is fine, but nothing beats building a real set.

Absolute cinema 👌

best production design of all time 🙌

Story ideas began to (ahem) gestate well before then. Preproduction in 1977, principal photography in 1978. Released in 1979.

Watched it at the cinema in 79 when I was 15 👍👍👍

Did you know some screens of the computers in Alien was used later in Blade Runner?

An entire generation has grown up with cgi and are now blown away with the practical effects of the past. Is this irony?

Loved Alien. One of the best suspenseful horror movies of all time. Saw it in the theater in 1979. My buddy leans over halfway through the movie and says “why do they have CCM hockey gloves on their spacesuits?” I spit out my Coke. Probably not a lot of people picked up on that.

Yes, and it shows.
