So Tia Ho asked her… What’s the deal with pop music right now? “The influence of hyperpop has become super big,” she says. “You can hear it in most of the alternative pop songs right now. It’s really sick. I would have been so geeked about the radio when I was like 15 if this is what was going on.” U points out that “all of the kids who were raised with unrestricted internet access” have grown up and they’re pulling from a much more broad range of influences. They’re also not trying to repeat some of the mistakes of previous generations, she says. In March, the 26-year-old singer, songwriter, and producer released her new project ‘U,’ and she’ll be heading out on the road with Charli xcx later this year.
