@HomeAffairsSA The website looks good but fails as it only accepts a biometric ID. Considering that those who have had their citizenship stolen are unable to get a biometric ID this is a #fail. There is no option for those with old ID books. And consulate in Dubai says they can’t help.

When are you going to address the problems with the errors in the NPR for ex SAfricans who lost citizenship automatically before the 1995 CA? Status often still shows as citizens when legally not. Why not gear the new portal to everyone with an option to opt out (not renounce)

It was my privilege to demonstrate the digital future of our immigration system to President Cyril Ramaphosa 🇿🇦 yesterday. During SONA in February, the President announced that Home Affairs would build an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to digitalise visa and entry/exit processes at ports of entry. I am delighted to announce that, by the end of September, the ETA will go live for tourist visa applications shorter than 90 days and will be rolled out by the BMA at major international airports. Over time, we will expand the ETA so that every type of visa application is processed only through this AI-based system to eliminate fraud and inefficiency - forever. The newly-established Border Management Authority hasdeployed 600 border guards at the vulnerable segments of our land border to prevent illegal migrants that are undocumented and inadmissible from entering the country. The Border Management Authority has demonstrated the effectiveness of modern technology like drones and body cameras in creating a more secure, digital border environment. Phase one of the Electronic Travel Authorisation system is currently being rolled out for G20 delegates. Over 200 applications have already been seamlessly processed by this new system, which uses machine learning to verify the authenticity of documents and facial recognition to secure the immigration process. Following the stabilisation phase around the G20, Electronic Travel Authorisation will be opened for tourist visas and to other visa categories. This will ultimately lead to the automation of entry-and-exit processes at our borders, including at land borders. This will eliminate the space for the abuse of paper-based and manual processes through biometric verification and digital transformation. Another area of work is to detect, apprehend and deport illegal migrants in the country. This is mainly done through intelligence-driven joint operations planned and executed by the Department of Home Affairs Inland Inspectorate and other structures. These structures are coordinated and account to the Inter-Ministerial Consultative Committee on Border Management and the NATJOINTS. In the past financial year, over 51,000 illegal immigrants were deported. Engagements with countries whose nationals are frequent transgressors are ongoing through discussions with embassies, and these matters are also included as an Agenda item on Bi-National Commissions. This is to ensure that the implication of illegal migration is understood. Illegal immigration does place a strain on our social services and undermines our national security. We should not allow vigilante acts targeting foreign nationals as these do not solve the problem and theyundermine the rule of law. Home Affairs has heard the pleas of South Africans living abroad, who have struggled for years to renew their passports and IDs, often waiting 12+ months just to get a new passport. From end July, we’re launching new facilities abroad - with a turnaround time of just 5 weeks. We’re starting in Australia, New Zealand and the UAE this month, followed by France, Germany and The Netherlands later this year, and the USA and Canada in the new year. But even this step is still just an interim solution. Our ultimate aim is to deliver Home Affairs @ home, which will enable every South African - no matter where they are on the planet - to obtain services from their government online 🇿🇦

REPEAT AFTER ME WHATEVER HAPPENS NEXT DO NOT COMPLY DO NOT CONSENT The Government is implementing a ‘tell-us-once’ approach and investing $654.3 million to expand the use of Digital ID to safely verify identity, reduce data storage and improve access to government services online. A further $62 million is being invested into the Consumer Data Right, including finding new ways for customers to use their own data to save money and get better services.
