BURKINABE HONOUR SANKARA’S LEGACY On Tuesday, it was the 37th anniversary of Thomas Sankara's assassination. That may seem a long tome ago, but the people of Burkina Faso still come out in large numbers every year in the capital Ouagadougou to remember him. At this year’s event, government officials, ambassadors and members of civil-society came together to pay tribute to his life and legacy. They gathered at the Thomas Sankara Memorial - the site of his assassination. African Stream was also there - speaking to Burkinabe about the significance of the ceremony within the context of the newly formed Alliance of Sahel States (AES). The AES is a pan-African, anti-imperialist confederation seeking to unify Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. It’s a project that’s very much in line with Sankara’s vision for his homeland and Africa. Instead of bringing solutions or exercising leadership, Deni chooses to expose his country’s problems to the world! He literally takes his grievances to foreign ambassadors and turns them into intermediaries between himself and the federal government. What makes it even worse is that he didn't host these discussions in Garowe, the capital of the state he governs. Instead, he chose to meet foreign officials in a neighboring foreign country, Kenya, to discuss the affairs of his own country. This kind of shameful behavior is exactly why no one takes Somalia seriously, and one of the reasons the world feels comfortable attacking Somalia and the Somali people.

At the age of 28, he realized he was no longer able to listen to a flute being played in the distance, and he spent the rest of his life composing the most enduring music in Western history in almost complete silence... He had been a working musician since childhood. His ears were everything. In 1798, in the middle of a heated argument with a singer, he noticed for the first time that something was wrong. The sound was thinning at the edges. He could hear voices, but high frequencies were beginning to disappear. He told no one for years. By 1802, the truth was no longer deniable. On his doctor's advice he moved to Heiligenstadt, a quiet village outside Vienna, hoping the country air would help. It did not. There, alone and surrounded by farmland, he wrote a letter to his two brothers that he never sent. It was found among his papers after his death. We now call it the Heiligenstadt Testament, and it is one of the most devastating documents ever written by an artist about himself: "You men who think or say that I am malevolent, stubborn or misanthropic, how greatly do you wrong me. You do not know the cause of my seeming so... what a humiliation, when one stood beside me and heard a flute in the distance and I heard nothing, or someone heard the shepherd singing, and again I heard nothing." He wrote, in the same letter, that he had thought of ending his life. And then he wrote the line that explains everything that followed: "Only my art held me back. It seemed impossible to me to leave the world before I had produced everything I felt called upon to produce." He went back to Vienna. He went on composing. Over the next two decades his hearing continued to fade. Friends began writing their words down in small notebooks instead of speaking them aloud, and waiting while he read. Modern scholars call these the conversation books. Around four hundred of them survive. To compose, he developed his own methods. He bit one end of a wooden rod and pressed the other against the soundboard of his piano, letting the vibrations travel through his jaw to his inner ear. He had stumbled, through trial and error, onto the principle that modern science calls bone conduction. The cause of his deafness has never been settled. This is what real respect for a president looks like. He never needed to cancel comedians or extort media companies, Fortune 500 CEOs or trusted trading partners. He never bent the knee to Vladimir Putin, a convicted war criminal. He never blamed the victim of an illegal invasion for having caused a conflict. He never instigated a federal sales tax on every American calling it a tariff and pretended foreign countries paid the bill. And he certainly did not preside over the biggest transfer of wealth from the bottom to the top in American history. He never removed the healthcare and SNAP payments of millions of Americans, while removing consumer and environmental protections against clean air and clean water. He never pretended prices were going down when they were going up. He never threatened to invade Canada, Greenland or Panama. He never setup a crypto bribe pipeline and earned $5 billion in his first 6 months in office, by using the seal of the President to extort those seeking access to favors. He never deployed the military to American cities and condoned the abduction of people by masked men from the streets, and he never deported people to concentration camps. He never defunded universities, scientific research including for childhood cancer and never endangered the lives of children by the integrating conspiracy theories into critical vaccines programs for preventable childhood diseases. He never removed the right to bodily autonomy for women or forced them to risk death to preserve an unviable fetus. Or to face imprisonment for a miscarriage. He never tried to ban access to medicated abortion, or try to limit access to contraception. He never tore up the Rose Garden and paved over it with concrete and cheap looking parasols. He never decorated the Oval Office like a 17th Century French brothel, and he definitely did not sell American citizenship. He never committed crimes against the English language and sentence structure. And was never a laughing stock on the world stage, neither did he travel abroad to lecture world leaders on the free speech he was denying his own citizens. He never gave a speech before a monarch during which people cringed and wanted to crawl into a hole with embarrassment for him. He did however win the heart of Queen Elizabeth II who asked him if he would return to visit after his presidency. He did visit Buckingham Palace three times and the Queen allowed his daughters to sit in the Royal carriage as an enduring sign of her affection for him and his family. He was never a fan of wearing orange face paint or living on Big Macs and full sugar Coca-Cola. Oh and did I mention he didn’t cheat at golf? He never lost a presidential election and won the Nobel Peace prize, as well as numerous international honors, and did speak to a joint gathering of the Lords and the Commons in the historic Westminster hall at the Houses of Parliament. But in the spirit of balance, he DID wear a tan suit! Was guilty of being the most popular president in American history and could speak using full sentences, cadence with oratory dynamics. This is what real respect for a president looks like. He never needed to cancel comedians or extort media companies, Fortune 500 CEOs or trusted trading partners. He never bent the knee to Vladimir Putin, a convicted war criminal. He never blamed the victim of an illegal invasion for having caused a conflict. He never instigated a federal sales tax on every American calling it a tariff and pretended foreign countries paid the bill. And he certainly did not preside over the biggest transfer of wealth from the bottom to the top in American history. He never removed the healthcare and SNAP payments of millions of Americans, while removing consumer and environmental protections against clean air and clean water. He never pretended prices were going down when they were going up. He never threatened to invade Canada, Greenland or Panama. He never setup a crypto bribe pipeline and earned $5 billion in his first 6 months in office, by using the seal of the President to extort those seeking access to favors. He never deployed the military to American cities and condoned the abduction of people by masked men from the streets, and he never deported people to concentration camps. He never defunded universities, scientific research including for childhood cancer and never endangered the lives of children by the integrating conspiracy theories into critical vaccines programs for preventable childhood diseases. He never removed the right to bodily autonomy for women or forced them to risk death to preserve an unviable fetus. Or to face imprisonment for a miscarriage. He never tried to ban access to medicated abortion, or try to limit access to contraception. He never tore up the Rose Garden and paved over it with concrete and cheap looking parasols. He never decorated the Oval Office like a 17th Century French brothel, and he definitely did not sell American citizenship. He never committed crimes against the English language and sentence structure. And was never a laughing stock on the world stage, neither did he travel abroad to lecture world leaders on the free speech he was denying his own citizens. He never gave a speech before a monarch during which people cringed and wanted to crawl into a hole with embarrassment for him. He did however win the heart of Queen Elizabeth II who asked him if he would return to visit after his presidency. He did visit Buckingham Palace three times and the Queen allowed his daughters to sit in the Royal carriage as an enduring sign of her affection for him and his family. He was never a fan of wearing orange face paint or living on Big Macs and full sugar Coca-Cola. Oh and did I mention he didn’t cheat at golf? He never lost a presidential election and won the Nobel Peace prize, as well as numerous international honors, and did speak to a joint gathering of the Lords and the Commons in the historic Westminster hall at the Houses of Parliament. But in the spirit of balance, he DID wear a tan suit! Was guilty of being the most popular president in American history and could speak using full sentences, cadence with oratory dynamics. One could say it was not his illness that killed him, but the knife we put in his back, the betrayal of a nation he had dedicated his life to. Reza Pahlavi’s friends and family who remained in Iran were murdered, one by one, at the hands of the regime WE enabled. An entire generation around him was hunted, imprisoned, executed, or driven into exile. His sister and brother, unable to bear the weight of exile and the destruction of everything they had known, took their own lives. Reza Pahlavi has the money. He could have chosen a quiet life, a life of comfort and distance, far from the insults, the threats, the endless character assassination. Instead of spending more than four decades on this path, he could have lived for himself and his family, free of this burden. Instead, he chose responsibility. He chose to stand for the very people who betrayed his family and became the cause of so much suffering in his life. What does he ask in return? Nothing. No throne has been demanded. No position imposed. He has asked only for a national process in which the Iranian people themselves decide their future. Yet even for that, he is criticised by so-called “Iran expert” podcasters who have never carried the weight of a nation on their shoulders, who say, “He does not want to lead,” “He is not your guy.” All while he and his family live under constant attacks, threats, and scrutiny on a daily basis. Despite all of that, his love for his people and his land overrides everything. He continues to fight for us. I want to say we have done nothing to deserve it, but the people of Iran have proven otherwise in these past weeks. They are no longer blinded by decades of propaganda. They are revisiting their history. They are correcting the lies they were raised with. They are openly calling his name in the streets, knowing the price that must be paid for it. [WATCH] THE PRESIDENT WILL NOT RESIGN. When it comes to the President, there is always a distinctive role between him being the President of the party and the state. There are many factors that influence the state in terms of governance and stability. If the President is called upon by some to resign and he keeps quiet it can throw the state into a state of turmoil. I want to make it clear that the officials agreed with the President on his approach, he took us into confidence and explained the factors that led him to make that particular pronouncement. We believe that the President did the right thing in pronouncing in the best interest of South Africa that he will not be resigning. There was nothing in terms of the judgment that warranted the President to resign it was just mere calls made by individuals and political parties that wanted to throw our country into a state of turmoil, uncertainty and anxiety. So it was imperative that he focus on that. It was correct for him to tell the country that from where he is standing there is nothing in the judgement that states he has done any wrongdoing and what he is going to do with the options in front of him and he has made this public. The President will take the Section 89 Report on review based on the outcome of the judgment and the legal advice he has received. There are no daggers out for the President to resign just opportunistic elements. These elements do not know what they want, they want to impeach and want him to resign, they do know what they actually want. The veracity of the report has not been tested in any committee so they don’t have a basis for the President to resign.

The man said that for several weeks he had been trying to reach the positions of the Ukrainian military. He was looking for food and water in abandoned houses in the cold. In this search, he was able to bypass enemy positions and reach the “gray zone”. There he was hiding from enemy groups and drones.
