Everything and everyone matters when you’re pursuing greatness and trying to get the most out of players on a team. We are fortunate to have the coaching staff we have. The coaches put in 2-3x the work in preparation as players. I appreciate Coach Tim Walton putting the effort into these moments to create more connection with the young guys. These moments are why these young guys go out and go all out for him. There’s lots that goes into running a team. You need all coaches and players moving in the right direction. Nick Saban has always asked this question about Leadership... "How many guys on the team need to be led?" Coach Saban believed in the power of Collective Leadership with his teams. 1. Are most players on your team bought in? 2. Do most players on your team set a good example? These players do not need someone to impact or influence them if they are already making these choices and leading by example. This is the power of collective leadership. Collective leadership is vital to successful teams. I believe there are 7 types of Collective Leaders that all teams need: 1. The GAMER - When the game is on the line. Who does the team look to? Who wants the ball in their hand? It is the Game Leader. They don't "have" to lead in other ways, but it would be best if they did. This player is often the ultimate competitor on the team. 2. The WORKER - Winning Teams have Practice Leaders. They bring energy and focus to each practice. They ensure competitive and strong practices. They Lead by Example. You practice much more than you play. 3. The GATEKEEPER - This leader ensures the Team Culture is Maintained. They put out the fires. They keep the team accountable. Especially when the coach is not there. They are essential in WINNING Teams. 4. The COMMUNICATOR - It is a long season. There will be difficult days. Teams need the Communicator to get through these tough days. They often provide humor and can lighten the mood. They have high Emotional Intelligence. This is an Underappreciated Leader. 5. The CONNECTOR - These players are often your “glue” players. They keep the team connected on the court or field as well as in the locker room and in social settings. 6. The ENERGY GIVER - The Energy Giver brings Positive Energy Every Day! Their Energy is Contagious! This leader knows that nothing great can be accomplished without Enthusiasm. The Energy Leader brings positive energy each day. They feed the team! 7. The SERVER - Finally, the Server embodies Servant Leadership. They are all about the TEAM. They bring a WE-first mentality to all they do. Their focus on the TEAM creates a contagious WE>ME mentality throughout the team. THE ANSWER TO ADAM SILVER.. Basketball is a simple game… the teams that dominate SIMPLE, have the most success. What Europe does extremely well for their players, is give them a SOLID FOUNDATION of understanding team basketball, give them freedom to build their Individual Skill, and make every game Meaningful Something. That Foundation is simple to teach, we don’t do a good job of it in America. In top of that, when players don’t do the little things, we don’t hold them accountable to them. When the best ones get to the next level where their talent/skill is even, they can’t get on the floor or impact winning bc of this. By sheer numbers we’ll always have Size/Speed/Athleticism and Skill to choose from. Build these players with Stronger TEAM FOUNDATIONS, hold them accountable to it, and you’ll build AMERICAN BASKETBALL. P.S. the reason this probably won’t happen is the same reason why people won’t watch this full 1:30 video… its boring

6’10 Point Forward Yoro Diallo has been one of the most intriguing players in D2 so far this season. Through his first five games he’s averaging 15/12/4 while shooting 50% from the field and 36% from three. Diallo moves extremely well for his height and plays with great craft at 6’10 and has been one of the most versatile players on a good D2 team. Diallo has the ability to push the ball in transition and create his own look for himself and his teammates, while also being polished in the HC with his ability to play in the PNR and multiple positions on the floor with his ability to shoot, pass, and finish at the rim. Diallo has also played strong defense.

“The business grew 100% year over year and we fired about 40% of the team because I wanted to distill it down to A players.” David: “Steve Jobs said that he had only ever seen one company that was all full of A players and it was Pixar. Pixar had four hundred employees and at the time Apple had like three thousand. Steve said of course, if I have three thousand employees they can't all be A players. But no one actually does the difficult job of making sure that you don't alienate these A players by surrounding them with Bs and Cs and other less talented people, because if you do that, they're going to leave.” Adam: “A players don't like to work with Bs, Cs, Ds. You're gonna burn your As out. Anything that's worse than an A player on the team and you're distracting your best people by making them work with those types of people. It causes a huge loss because eventually you end up churning out your As. So I had to not only understand who are the key people, I had to go through this period of time where the business grew nearly a hundred percent year over year, and we fired about forty percent of the team because I wanted to distill it down to these A players. I wanted to get it to a place where we had fresh blood, with key people, in key roles, getting a lot of equity, they've got a lot of upside, and there’s support around them—and then we're lean and mean organization.”

I have to tell you a story, about three days ago (February 16). The Regent of Johor brought his team (JDT) to Pontian just few days before the big match. He called the management and the players of JDT, 'forced' them to get on the bus. He brought this team to Pontian to visit a family that is going through a major challenge. The person that they visited just lost his wife and he’s got to raise four children. So he’s going through a hard time, he’s got to go through odd jobs to earn a living. And after that session, he brought the players and management to a coffee shop in Pontian, sat them down and thanked them for coming to visit that family and reminded them that how blessed he is, how blessed the team is and whatever challenges that they are facing is nothing compared to that family. For the players, their pressure is to perform every single game. For The Regent of Johor, he said his pressure, his responsibility is to the 4 million Johoreans living in Johor. One year ago, I became a major investor, partner and managing partner of the United Football League. What a great f$&king year!!!!! 💪 New teams. New cities. New coaches. New rules. Bigger crowds. Increased viewership. Incredible plays, more innovation and the four-point field goal!!!!! Pay attention to Saudi . They’re hosting the World Cup in 2034 and they have serious plans to do well at that World Cup. First thing for them is to invest in their league. These Saudi players in this Uruguay game, you could see their quality. They’re being coached by elite managers, they play with or against Ronaldo, Benzema, Kante, Mahrez, Mane, etc. these are players that have won everything. Exposure to such training programmes, world class coaches and team mates, facilities, it’s just madness. Most of the players in their squad are from the 4 government-owned teams like Hilal, Nassr, Ahli, some from Al Qadsia too which is also a good side. These top teams are exposed to world class structures (you can’t say same for the others, but that’s why the squad is made up of most players from the top teams). One of their players, Saud, was even bold enough to leave the league and he’s just done amazingly well at RC Lens this season,after he joined on loan from Roma. This is good for them too. Steven Gerrard shared a bit about the Saudi plan on “Stick to Football” recently. He said one of the things they told him was that they wanted to develop their academies especially and they wanted him to be part of it. I’ve attached the video. There’s an u21 league that is serious now in Saudi. You can also go pro at 16 years of age in Saudi now. It was 18 before. The youngsters are also exposed to these facilities which will aid their development, because some of them are expected to make that squad in 2034. Let me end this tweet with the shortfall of this project. Due to the influx of top players, many of these young players are not getting so much playing time, and they need to. They have a decent national team now but most of them won’t be present in 2034 when they host the World Cup at home. You can understand why these top teams don’t give so much youngsters opportunities even in Europe, this is because they’re chasing the league and they have no time for trials with the kids, this has to change. I always support the youth. I think teams are entitled to 8 foreign players, the league organisers should also put something in place to ensure teams play u21 players and the likes. I’m sure they’re thinking of these things and I’m rooting for them to do well. Fingers crossed.
