This destroys basically every Democrat fearmongering narrative about Donald Trump’s bill to Abolish the Department of Education Breakdown of Returning Education to our State's Act: - The Child Nutrition Program is not paid out by the Department of Education. This is managed by the Department of Agriculture (So it’s not impacted) - Federal Pell Grant Program, federal Family Education Loan Program, William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program, federal Perkins Loan Programs, all not going anywhere. They're still gonna be alive and well, just moving to the Department of Treasury (This is BIG one) - All functions, programs and authorities of the Secretary of Education under the Individuals with Disability Education Act shall be transferred to the Department of Health and Human Services. This is your IEPs, your early intervention, your special education grants, your free special education services. Those all will just be moving to the Department of Health and Human Services (Not financially impacted) - Each authority and program of the Office of Indian Education of the Department of Education shall be transferred to the Department of Interior. Those are programs designed for Native Americans specifically in their education (Not financially impacted) - Title Eight of Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 shall be transferred to the Department of Health and Human Services. This includes the financial assistant that local education agencies get that lose property tax revenue due to the presence of federally connected students. So those who live on Indian lands have military family or parents. I’m relieved that #yyccc made the right decision this morning by rejecting an irresponsible motion that could have jeopardized public safety. Some members of Council and the mayor have pushed an agenda to take $8 million out of the Calgary Police Service’s budget and shift it under City Administration through the Community Safety Investment Framework. This move would have undermined the oversight and effectiveness of critical funding meant to address crisis intervention and community safety. The police budget, as originally proposed, was already balanced and strategic. To attempt to strip oversight from the police and move funds elsewhere was not only short-sighted but reckless. I’m glad to see Council recognized the flaws in this motion and voted it down. I will not stand with those who fail to support our critical frontline services. I know they're going to try to spin the narrative differently. Just look at the voting records to know the truth. I’ll continue to advocate for fiscal responsibility and public safety, ensuring that essential services like the police are properly equipped to protect Calgarians.

There’s no doubt our city is moving in the right direction—and we still have so much work left to do. When families across San Francisco sit down for dinner at night, the rising cost of rent, healthcare, food, and gas has many asking whether they can afford to stay. In a region as wealthy as this one, in a moment where the world is looking to San Francisco to define the future, we cannot leave people behind—hard-working San Franciscans who make this city the vibrant, dynamic place we all know and love. This year’s budget closes a $642 million dollar two-year deficit—moving our city forward for all San Franciscans. I presented this budget this afternoon from one of the city’s benefits centers in the Mission, where hundreds of San Franciscans come every day to access healthcare, food assistance, and employment services. This budget strengthens the work happening right here, using funding from the emergency reserve we established last year to respond to sweeping federal cuts. It also funds critical public safety improvements, protects legal services for immigrant families, continues support for LGBTQ+ residents, and invests in proven programs that help keep families housed, move young people out of homelessness, and connect people to treatment. In San Francisco, we are proving that common sense and discipline can drive a broad economic recovery. In the weeks ahead, I will partner with Board President Mandelman, Budget Chair Chan, and the entire Board of Supervisors to finalize this budget. Last year, we stabilized the city’s finances. This year, in the face of new challenges, we are continuing to stand together as San Franciscans. San Francisco is a city on the rise, and we are not leaving anyone behind.

At the CJP protest, food distribution has been stopped from today. The reason is that people were coming 24/7 just to eat free food, and the entire protest had turned into a picnic spot. So now, food distribution has been stopped. Only biscuit packets are being given, and those are only for people who have been protesting the entire day. Their names are recorded before they receive a biscuit packet. Abhijeet Dipke and Junaid should not have stopped distributing food because whatever little crowd was there was coming only for the free food. Now, no one will come to the protest.
