THREAD 🧵- Constitutional scholar Anne Twomey provided some devastating criticisms of the Misinformation Bill in a Senate hearing today. In this clip she explains that it isn’t reasonable to claim something is “disinformation” on the say-so of fact-checkers…

Does the Bill make the Australian Communications and Media Authority into a Ministry of Truth? Kind of.

Here’s the really concerning bit - the Bill could result in Australians right to political communication being restricted…

“If what is said in the explanatory memorandum is right, then this IS actually getting into the political issues that lead to the voting.”

…and here is the coup de grace. During the COVID pandemic, the official consensus was wrong and actually changed on some issues. Had the Bill been in place, it would have required the truth to be censored.

If we don’t talk we are in the cult of a totalitarian ideology. No one is safe from the dictates of power from either side of politics. Under the Woke Totalitarian Theocracy embedded into the State infrastructure we have all cowered into a terrorised silence.

Absolutely. Some ppl are saying renewables are cheapest. Some are saying nuclear is cheapest. Clearly one group is guilty of mis/dis information. Once this law is passed one group could be jailed depending on the govt of the day’s view. Insane.

Question - does the Free Speech Union of Australia plan on bringing legal fights against this tyrannical bill to fight for free speech in Australia.

what concerns me is that I've seen an Academic deliberately lie and have no other intention but to deceive while already claiming immunity and a perceived authority simply because she is an academic. Why give such a human any more power to be lie and deliberately cause harm? And to clarify I'm not referring to Prof Twomey who raises very interesting points.

Did anyone check Articles 19 and 20 in the constitution?? I see a high court challenge to this mess
