“From the outside, the marks are barely visible. Inside, they cause massive internal damage, tunneling through the body and leading to fatal bleeding.”
Dr. Syed described treating a 9-year-old girl who was paralyzed after a shard severed her spinal cord.
She also removed a piece of shrapnel from under a man’s eyelid during her last mission.
These weapons, still being used, are causing unimaginable harm to civilians and children in Gaza. This issue was reported earlier this year in The Guardian but has since faded from the spotlight. 📎

🚨Heartbreaking: Dr. Youssef Abu Abdullah, a Moroccan volunteer pediatric surgeon currently on a medical mission in #Gaza, shared harrowing testimonies of the brutal injuries inflicted on children by the Israeli military. Among them is 6-year-old Maryam. Maryam was critically injured after an Israeli airstrike targeted her family home. She was brought to the Indonesian Hospital in a coma, suffering from multiple life-threatening injuries: a large shrapnel had pierced her abdomen, her back was severely wounded, limbs fractured, and her chest and face were burned. She remained in intensive care for days. Thanks to the medical team, Maryam regained consciousness. But she is unaware that her entire family was killed in the attack she is now an orphan !
