Plea argues that once a family member attains a Govt or Constitutional post, their children should not keep availing quota benefits. I can give 3 examples right here on how benefits of reservations are availed by those who are no-more oppressed or without access to resources to studies. Father → Kids 1. Jaswant Dabi (ITS officer, Group A central service) → Tina Dabi (IAS, 2015 batch) and Ria Dabi (IAS, 2020 batch)— Family availed ST reservation benefits. 2. Uttam Khobragade (IAS, 1984 batch) → Devyani Khobragade (IFS, 1999 batch) — Both availed SC reservation. 3. Sanwar Mal Verma (Promotee IAS, Rajasthan cadre) → Kanishak Kataria (IAS, 2018 batch) — Family from SC category; son topped on merit but eligible under SC framework. These are just 3 examples. There may be many. Now SC has asked Centre and States to reply to a petition seeking creamy layer application in SC/ST reservations. Question is: 'Are reservations being cornered by a few families across generations who have become affluent enough not to need those reservation benefits? Isn't it an injustice with those from humble background who really don't have free access to resources'. Good that finally this issue is being raised.

I met the DGP of Manipur today and raised concerns regarding the current crisis in Manipur. I enquired about the missing case of Avinash Maibam aged about 16 years and Ningthoujam Anthony aged about 19 years from Akham Awang Leikai under Lamshang PS. He told that strict combing operation is underway and two suspects have been arrested. He also told that, by today evening, we will get exact details of the incident . I also enquired about the case of Ngalheiba and Chingkheinganba who were brutally killed by the Kuki Militants. He replied that they are searching for them and the process is being delayed because they are hiding inside the hills behind the Kuki Militants. I further told him that the Law of the Land is just not for the valley. I requested him to gun down all the Kuki Militants and arrest all the culprits . I furthur told that under SoO agreement, the kuki militants are doing all the Unlawful activities and so requested him to abrogate the agreement and finish them once and for all, so that once again Manipur can be a peaceful state. I also enquired about the case of Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemjit. He replied that, their case is already handed over to the CBI now the investigation is now their responsibility.

Trucker Inc. tragedy: Killer finally faces justice four years later Four years after an Indian truck driver killed a Quebec mother and her 11-year-old son, their family is still demanding answers about how Baljeet Singh was able to flee Canada, continue driving commercially in the U.S. and evade authorities for years before finally being returned to face justice. Four years after a truck collision in Brossard, Baljeet Singh is expected to learn his sentence in a case that has become a symbol of failures surrounding Canada’s “Driver Inc.” model. On July 19, 2022, Singh was driving a 53-foot tractor-trailer through a construction zone near Montreal when traffic slowed on Boulevard Cousineau. He failed to brake and struck several vehicles. Nancy Lefrançois, 42, and her 11-year-old son, Loïc Chevalier, were killed, while several others were injured. Court records indicate Singh had been using his phone for more than an hour and admitted he was playing a game around the time of the collision. After being questioned and hospitalized, Singh was released. The following day, he travelled to Toronto and boarded a flight to New Delhi, India. Criminal charges were not laid until July 2023, and he was not arrested until August 2025 after being located in California, where he was reportedly working and seeking a commercial driver’s licence. Mélanie Séguin, Lefrançois’s mother-in-law by marriage, said the family has spent years fighting not only for a sentence, but also for answers. “I continue to ask myself why Mr. Singh’s passport was not seized for the duration of the investigation,” she said during the parliamentary committee where she sat as a witness. “It makes absolutely no sense that someone can come here, kill people and still be free to leave the country,” she said during the interview with Rebel News. Séguin said the delay deepened the family’s suffering and left them feeling abandoned by the justice system. “We are the ones who suffered prejudice for three years before Mr. Singh returned to Canadian soil,” she said. For the family, sentencing will close only one chapter in a fight they say must now lead to reforms.
