Chamath’s 2026 IPO Advice: Get Public Fast or Get Left Behind Jason: “ What are your thoughts here on the flurry of potential IPOs?” Chamath: “I think that we have a bit of a risk problem. If you think about appetite as equivalent to a person at a Thanksgiving dinner, when you first come in and you see all of this stuff, it's so plentiful, your eyes are bigger than your stomach. And I think in a moment like that, you want to be the one that is consumed first. And I think the risk increases when you are at the tail end because the risk is that the diners will run out of space.” Jason: “Plate fills up. Yeah.” Chamath: “And if you use that analogy, I think the reason why people's plates will get full is probably twofold and maybe threefold. The first and most important thing is there's enough tactical event risk that people generally want to be risk off and have more margin of safety. We have a lot of these really important financial moments tied to this concept of AGI, ASI. We have a real pricing problem. If AGI is real, the durability of most companies is slim to none. If AGI is not real, then the fundraising capacity of these companies that are now raising hundreds of billions of dollars needs to get questioned and inspected thoroughly. History will sort out which one is right, but both cannot be right. So in that vein, I don't think we're going to have this “blockbuster” stream of IPOs. I think what happens is SpaceX is going to get out. They're going to do great, and then maybe the next one does good to great, then the next one will do good, and then the appetite runs out because you just can't absorb, incrementally, trillions of dollars of new demand. And if you think about it, where is it going to come from? Is it going to come from the sidelines? I don't know, I think it's more of a reallocation exercise. But if you look at the S&P, well, most people are now defensively moving away from these kinds of things, towards the things that are more protected, what the industry calls HALO, right? Those things trade for zero today. You could buy hundreds of millions of dollars a year of cashflow for 2-5x right now in the stock market. And so why are you going to go way out on the risk curve and buy something at 200x revenue, let alone earnings? I'm more in the camp of, I think it's good to be first, it’s pretty decent to be second, but if I were you, I would get the heck out, and get public, and get your money, and fortify your balance sheet ASAP, because I think the risk builds the further down the IPO chain you're in.”

It is not the gift that keeps on giving that it once was, and all of us in it are feeling poorer and feeling like shit. I feel it too. But feeling bad and being wrong are not the same thing. Nothing in the actual mechanism has broken. The business cycle has already turned. Liquidity says crypto is running cold, not dead. And I still believe, deeply, that layer 1s are the place to be... Ethereum, Solana, Sui. I sat down and wrote my full thinking out today. My up to date thesis on crypto right now, why I'm still here, and where I think the real money gets made from here.

I think the narrative on AI is very much that occurred when television went to color and everybody said it would wipe out radio. It didn't happen. It's a tool. It's a tool for productivity and margin enhancement. It's just starting to get utilized in all 11 sectors of the economy. My companies use it. But it's nowhere near the disruptor that people think. I'm more concerned about Chinese on AI because they have unlimited power. They are not restricted to set up coal-burning electrical plants. We can't do that. AI right now, for me, is a competition on defense and the military in China. I worry that we're falling behind the Chinese on power on our grid, and we haven't addressed it yet. We do not have policy that lets us build out at the same pace they are.

It's disenfranchised. It's disappointing. And right now, Americans are saying, "We don't want Forever Wars. We don't want our tax dollars to go to continuing genocides or expanding them." It’s really too bad that so many people are dooming out right now and missing the fact that we are only 6 months into the administration and we were just told that Comey & Brennan are under investigation. Do you realize the magnitude of this?! This is the start. It’s what we’ve been waiting for. All roads lead to Obama, Clinton and everyone that tried to overthrow our government and committed treason. Unfortunately, too many people are blinded by their emotions right now because they didn’t hear what they want regarding the Epstein files. That sucked, I agree. But I choose to celebrate the wins in front of me and have faith that real accountability is coming! Please join me 🇺🇸

I'll tell you the idea I like and I think every taxpayer likes better than this idea: use any excess capital to reduce the national debt. That is the most important thing we could be thinking about right now because it's not just for the people incumbent today, it's the future. Every time interest rates go up or stay where they are right now, it costs more just to pay that debt, much of which is owned by foreigners. We should really focus now on doing two things. One, get to a balanced budget and use any excess cash anywhere to get to that balanced budget and start paying down that debt and that would make even more money come to America.

I'll tell you the idea I like and I think every taxpayer likes better than this idea: use any excess capital to reduce the national debt. That is the most important thing we could be thinking about right now because it's not just for the people incumbent today, it's the future. Every time interest rates go up or stay where they are right now, it costs more just to pay that debt, much of which is owned by foreigners. We should really focus now on doing two things. One, get to a balanced budget and use any excess cash anywhere to get to that balanced budget and start paying down that debt and that would make even more money come to America.
