Why is Tamil Nadu so committed to a two-language policy? Honourable Minister Dr P Thiaga Rajan (PTR) challenges for those who forced us to adopt a three-language policy: What percentage of Indian students were skilled in three languages? Furthermore, we oppose education being moved to the concurrent list during Emergency, as the Tamil Nadu government excels at providing education. Instead of preaching a three-language policy, encourage your children to become proficient in one language.

For those of you who haven't seen the full story, here is the second half. Thiru K.Annamalai - who routinely propagates half-truths, twisted versions, and whole lies in a vain attempt to further his propaganda in our developed state - left out the conclusion of the clip which contains the political reasoning for our language policy. Only those with a cultist affliction would believe that there's truth in his post, when full details of the incident have already been widely published online in print and video format. If only he cared to be properly informed before posting, or had any concern about not spreading misleading material.... Also, no one was evicted. Every time I said "wait ✋️" I was asking for the person who asked the question to be given the chance to respond. The person returned to his seat and stayed there not just until the end of my session but also attended subsequent sessions. Many more TN BJP heads after this one may come and go, but Tamil Nadu will never waver from her two-language policy and accept a COMPULSORY three language policy, which is the proven route to thrusting Hindi down our throats, and trying to diminish our mother தமிழ், as has happened to the native languages of Hindi-belt states.

While giving permission for 774 schools out of 1460 CBSE schools in TN to teach Hindi as the third language, DMK continues to mislead the country over a non-existent Hindi imposition. LINGUISTIC IMPERIALISM Linguistic imperialism is the process whereby dominant powers impose their language on those they colonise, suppressing indigenous languages and thus marginalising their speakers and sustaining power inequalities. Indigenous languages in colonial Africa were frowned upon, while colonial languages were made mandatory. In Anglophone Africa, policies were all written in English; media and broadcasting used English; and there were many systemic policies forbidding the use of indigenous languages. For example, students in many Kenyan schools were punished for using any other languages, with most of these punishments involving shaming tactics such as the wearing of bones from dead animals as chains around the neck. This also happened to the indigenous people who were forced to speak Arabic and change their names in places like Sudan. This warped the consciousness of individuals, leading to a loss of appreciation for indigenous languages and cultures - and promoted the adoption of the coloniser’s worldview, values, systems and structures. UNESCO's 1953 report, The Use of Vernacular Languages in Education, indicated that around 40% of the global population received education in an unfamiliar language. Sub-Saharan Africa, which is home to nearly 30% of the world’s languages, still uses the colonisers’ languages as national languages. Consequently, the education and values instilled remain those of the colonisers. Many languages are at risk of extinction, with only a few speakers left. The loss of these languages is equivalent to the loss of African heritage and culture.
