Eddie Muller screened "Armored Car Robbery" (1950) in his first Film Noir Festival [in 1998?] with Richard Fleischer as the guest of honour. Fleischer hadn't seen the movie after he completed post production in 1950. He was nervous about seeing it completely for the first time. Just before the lights went down, Fleischer told Muller, "I'm afraid, I will be embarrassed". After watching the movie completely, Fleischer smiled and said, "Not bad. I gotta say not bad for a kid just starting out." ("Noir Alley", Eddie Muller, TCM) P.S: On this day, 76 years ago, "Armored Car Robbery" (1950) was released in the USA.

Produced by Paramount as a response to Disney’s Snow White, Gulliver’s Travels (1939) was the studio’s first animated feature. Based on Jonathan Swift’s novel, this Fleischer Studio film, used 'rotoscoping', a new animation technique developed by Max Fleischer. The process involves tracing live-action footage frame-by-frame; Sam Parker, the actor who performed the voice of Gulliver, also modeled as the character's live-action reference. Gulliver was a success at the box office and earned two Oscar nominations.

According to Richard Fleischer, Howard Hughes saw "The Narrow Margin" (1952) several times and it was his favourite picture. He was so impressed with the film that he didn't want to change anything in the movie but he wanted it to be entirely shot again with Robert Mitchum and Jane Russell as the leads. Fleischer didn't know whether to laugh or cry when he heard about the plan. He was concerned that Hughes would get someone else to direct the movie. If it happened, he thought, "Instead of being the tightly wrought gem of a film noir we all believed it to be, it would now become—well, something else". But thankfully, Hughes plan didn't materialise. But it resulted in the film being released two years after it was completed. It became the the highest grossing movie for that year for RKO. P.S: On this day, 74 years ago, "The Narrow Margin" (1952) premiered in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.

In the late 1980s my science teacher, also the head of the A/V department showed me this film (I was an A/V volunteer why I have so much of this stuff). This is The City from 1939 and it is a very powerful film. It blew me away. And changed me. I convinced him to show it to all his classes and it was loved. I love everything about this movie. But especially the part where it said we could do better. This movie was shown at The World’s Fair and influenced many. However Cronyism and corruption took our good senses and responses it to tribalism that nullified the will of those that saw this film and saw a healthy path. Take the 45 minutes and know this was 1939.
