This weekend we held our $GNS 20 year anniversary. We grew from a one-man-band in 2005 to a global community, and from $0 to a $300m company in 2022 - Then we had our IPO and all hell broke loose. Three years as a listed company with multiple attacks against us, pushing us to the verge of delisting and bankruptcy. Yet here we are in 2025 (and in 2045 the crooks we beat will be a distant memory). A Japanese billionaire told me while the West is obsessed with getting 100x bigger, the East is focused at lasting 100x longer. At Genius, we can do both. We've been here for 20 years, and we'll be here in 20 years - and much more. “The Texas House will be organized. We will be ready. And we stand willing and able to listen to the community and experts to do all that we can.” That was my message today as I joined Governor Greg Abbott and emergency response officials in Kerrville for a briefing and aerial tour of the areas impacted by the recent devastating flooding. While there is a long road to recovery ahead, the State of Texas will continue to provide the support and resources needed for these communities to recover and for every missing person to be found. All of Texas continues to hold the Texans who lost their lives and those impacted by this tragedy in our hearts and in our prayers.

Right now, state funding cannot be used for sober, recovery-focused housing. That limits our city’s ability to support people who are working hard to get—and stay—sober. Today, I stood with Assemblymember Matt Haney in support of AB 1556, a bill that will allow cities to use state resources to create and expand drug-free recovery housing—giving people the stability and support they need to rebuild their lives. Recovery is not one-size-fits-all, and our system shouldn’t be either. We’ve already seen the impact of this approach in San Francisco with projects like Hope House—a sober shelter that I visited recently—which has a 78% success rate of moving residents into long-term recovery options. To everyone struggling or working to stay in recovery, we are working every day to build a system that supports you. And we’re not going to stop. Thank you to Assemblymember Haney for your leadership and to the Bay Area Council and all of our partners.

Yesterday, I had an unexpected and touching encounter with a woman who reminded me that I helped her years ago when she was diagnosed with long-term illness. She told me she had been waiting a long time to simply say “thank you.” Moments like these remind me why I serve. Sometimes, it’s about one person; one life changed, one burden lifted, one silent prayer answered. I was deeply moved by her gratitude and strength. I give God thanks for the opportunity to be of service, and I remain committed to building a Jamaica where no one is left behind.

However, global demand for rhino horn fuelled a catastrophic wave of poaching that very nearly destroyed the species. By the mid-1980s, populations had plummeted from 20,000 to less than 400. The once-ubiquitous symbols of Kenya's wilderness had been nearly poached to extinction. Today, Kenya’s black rhinos are part of a remarkable comeback story. The population has grown to more than 1,000 and is steadily climbing. Seattle’s payroll tax was created nearly six years ago with a promise to tax the city’s highest-paid workers at its largest companies and use the money to help fund COVID relief, affordable housing, and long-term economic recovery. But a new report from the Downtown Seattle Association argues the tax, known as JumpStart, has instead become part of a wider cost problem that is making Seattle less competitive with Bellevue.
