There are powerful machines, and then there’s Super Heavy lighting 33 Raptors at once. SpaceX just ran the booster through a full-duration static fire for Flight 14. The most powerful moving object ever made by humans. All that ridiculous thrust has one job: get a fully reusable Starship moving massive payloads to make frequent deep-space transport actually practical. Gravity has a very serious opponent. When Cybertruck becomes the getaway car for astronauts, you know the job is serious. NASA has certified Cybertruck as the emergency egress vehicle for SpaceX crews, parked near the pad and ready to move fast if something goes wrong. If suited crew need to get out fast, instant torque, quick acceleration and protection all matter a lot. Astronauts can slide down, get in, and clear the area without waiting on engine start-up or slower heavy vehicles. Cybertruck is pretty well suited for rocket-adjacent problems. Tesla SpaceX Cybertruck / Writer: Annette, Designer: Janné

🚨🇺🇸 ANOTHER CLEAN RETURN FOR SPACEX AS FALCON HAS A FLAWLESS TOUCHDOWN SpaceX nailed it again. Falcon 9 booster successfully touched down at Landing Zone 4 moments ago after launching [payload/mission details if known, otherwise: its latest mission from Cape Canaveral. The booster, fresh off the pad, executed a textbook return to LZ 4 on Florida's Space Coast, legs deployed, engines relit, and a perfect vertical touchdown. This marks yet another precise landing for the reusable rocket program that's redefined spaceflight. With boosters now routinely flying multiple missions, SpaceX continues to drive down launch costs and push rapid reusability closer to reality. Falcon 9 landing at LZ-4 is the kind of routine that used to be impossible. Now it's just a Friday. Yet it still gets me every time. Source: SpaceX, NSF - NASASpaceflight.com

BREAKING: SpaceX has just announced a massive $100 BILLION Starship launch site in Louisiana, the largest capital investment project in the state’s history. The new high-cadence site in Vermilion Parish will: • Create 3,000+ direct jobs and thousands more indirectly • Support Starship launches at massive scale • Include propellant production and power generation • Have vehicle processing facilities, an airport and deep-water shipping capabilities SpaceX says the goal is for Starship to eventually launch thousands of times per year, making rocket launches as routine as airplane travel. Another major step toward scaling Starship and making humanity multiplanetary.

It was a clean, controlled ocean splashdown. The vehicle flipped vertically, completed its landing burn, and safely touched down before tipping and exploding, achieving 100% of its test objectives exactly as planned, including the explosion Yet, the legacy media like The Guardian deliberately choose headlines like "SpaceX rocket bursts into flames" to farm clicks, making it look like a failure when it's in fact the complete opposite, all for cheap sensationalism

How was the Super Bowl? I didn’t watch… I was too busy with my family to care. Catching the highlights of the halftime show, The NFL told hundreds of millions of English Speaking Americans to shut up, listen to this disgusting music you don’t even understand, and watch grown men dry hump each other. Goood job NFL for reminding me exactly why I don’t watch. 😀

3,000 jobs is the number on paper. Elon says the real number will be way bigger. SpaceX’s new Starbase Louisiana is a $100 billion project with 10 launch pads, its own propellant production, power generation, and enough land to scale properly. Gwynne Shotwell thinks the job count could end up closer to 10,000, based on what happened at Starbase Texas. This place is being built for serious Starship traffic, potentially 30+ launches a day. Turns out a spaceport needs a small city around it. SpaceX / Writer: Annette, Grok Imagine Designer: Janné

Dragon Launch Escape Initiated During the launch escape test, where SpaceX intentionally destroyed an entire rocket to prove its safety, Dragon was fed the normal launch sequence for an ISS mission. Dragon wasn’t told to escape, but its onboard autonomous flight computers noticed the loss of thrust on Falcon before the Merlin engines could even fully shut down. Once Dragon realized there was a mission critical anomaly, it instantly initiated the launch escape sequence firing all 8 SuperDraco thrusters, separating explosive bolts on the second stage, and took autonomous control of the mission, in less time than any human reaction on the ground or in the capsule could of realized. Falcon, the crew, Dragon, and the ground can all initiate an escape if required. Although this test was uncrewed (meaning nobody was on the rocket during the test), if there was a life threatening emergency that would put the mission at risk, Dragon could leave and get out of the situation immediately.

Elon Musk is currently living in an Airstream trailer in Memphis, Tennessee, while he personally oversees a huge AI infrastructure project. The company behind the project is xAI, Musk’s artificial-intelligence company, which was acquired by SpaceX earlier this year. The Memphis operation centers around Colossus, a massive supercomputer facility designed to provide the computing power needed to train and run Musk’s AI model, Grok. What strikes me about the story is how unusual it is: Musk could obviously stay in a luxury home, but he says he is living practically next to the construction site so he can be directly involved. He has jokingly called the Airstream his palace. His SpaceX president, Gwynne Shotwell, has also described him as someone who will sleep near a project when he is deeply involved in building it. Whether you admire Musk or not, there is something striking about seeing him trade a mansion for an Airstream because he wants to be steps away from the machines and people building his next big venture. And what he is building in Tennessee is essentially the computing backbone for his AI ambitions—a giant data center and supercomputing operation intended to make Grok and future AI systems much more powerful. #ElonMusk

What will it cost to launch a kilogram into space in 2040, if you don't own the rocket? We took a stab at forecasting customer launch price over the next decade. We try very hard to account for everything in a bottom up model. Built off 77k rows of cleaned historical data, more than 500 assumptions and then monte carlo'd 1,999 times. hopefully, we are less wrong then the next guy, but we'll see. Core takeaways: Starship opening to customers and when it does is 'the hinge' in the model. no one else has a viable path to the scale of reusable tonnage to orbit to effect customer prices. Internal usage (like Starlink/Starmind for SpaceX, or similar constellations for others like Terrawave/Blue Origin) dramatically dominates the total upmass to orbit driven by reduced internal costs. Even with the dropping customer prices the difference in $/kg between internal and external uses is dramatic. due to things like payload optimization. Interestingly enough, this model produces a fairly negative case (for customers purchasing launch) in the late 2030s where starship capacity is driven away from customers and toward Moon/Mars and internal endeavors causing a demand shock. You can read about the model, core assumptions and it's build methodology here...

Piaget bonus clip! Yesterday I wrote about Jean Piaget (the father of constructivism) and shared an example of a child building on his existing knowledge to make sense of an object he’d not yet encountered in life. (An anti-theft tag attached to a shoe, which he mistook for a battery charger.) Here’s a wonderful supplemental example. This sweet little one has never seen a car cover - and thus mistakes it for the world’s most pointless disguise. 😀 What a fantastic analysis! (Assuming her adults didn’t leave her in the dark as to the cover’s actual purpose, she’ll be making mental accommodations to take this new discovery into account - and experience things differently next time.) We all build knowledge as we go! 🧠 🎥 Lilia_and_Sax IG
