A member of the public filmed it and messaged us. We caught up with them just after midnight. The woman and the bloke coming straight at one of our lads who took their poles off them. Pole with screws in, flung at his face. He tells him to stay away. She threatens to stab him in the face, repeatedly, which was all heard by other team members who were at home. One of our team was already attacked before this, three puncture wounds in his hand. Police seized the poles as offensive weapons and moved them on. We will be giving statements for theft and criminal damage of property paid for by your donations, plus the weapons, the assault and the threats. The flags are going back up. We are not having it. Don’t fuck with us or our flags.

As the flags burned, they chanted: “Burn it well, set it alight - write Enosis on the wall with the ash,” a call for the union of Cyprus with Greece. In their hands, they carried Greek flags.
