🇪🇺🔥 Europe’s manufacturing edge is at real risk – too much capacity is moving to China, and what stays is hard to scale. The surprising solution might be a two-arm robot cell being built in a new lab in Ljubljana. I visited Sunrise Robotics to see how they’re building a new type of automation that could reshape European industry. Why it matters: • Europe is the world’s #2 manufacturing hub (~17–18%) • 50%+ of output is small-batch (high-mix/low-volume) → hard to automate • Millions of workers will retire or be out of job due to outsourcing • Sunrise created a standardized, simulation-trained cell • One operator can supervise multiple of these stations to build more complex products • This is a key to keeping factories – and competitiveness – in Europe I truly think Sunrise can become a global automation leader – disclaimer: I was their first (small) investor and first (big) fan. 🔥 The video shows everything: the test lab, the simulation stack, the UI, the assembly line, the first production batches… and a deep dive with CEO Tomaž Štolfa on the vision behind it. Full video link in the reply. If you enjoy it, please like + subscribe on YT – this really helps boost this kind of content. 🔥 If you care about robotics, automation, European competitiveness, or the future of work – checkout this video. PS: I was absurdly sick during the shoot… apologies for any sloppy camera work and spaced-out staring 😅

BREAKING: The U.S. Government has officially announced that Tesla and LG Energy have signed an agreement to ‌build a $4.3 billion lithium iron phosphate (LFP) prismatic battery cell manufacturing factory in Lansing, Michigan, with a 2027 start of production. "American-made cells will power Tesla's Megapack 3 energy storage systems produced in Houston, creating a robust domestic battery supply chain," the U.S. Department of the Interior said in a statement. Here's everything you need to know about Tesla's new Megablock, the latest in the company's industrial storage product lineup, which includes the new Megapack version 3: Megablock: • 23% faster to install with up to 40% lower construction costs • Plug and play platform (hardware, software and services) delivered as one all from Tesla. It's a pre-engineered medium-voltage block that integrates next-gen Megapack 3 • Eliminated above ground cabling between the transformer and the megapacks using new flexible busbar assembly • 91% MV round trip efficiency • 20 MWh of usable AC energy • Operates in temps of -40°C (-40°F) to 60°C (140°F) • 248 MWh per acre • 25-year life & >10,000 cycles • With Megablock, Tesla is targeting to commission 1GWh in 20 business days, equivalent to bringing power to 400,000 homes in less than month Megapack 3: • Will be manufactured in Tesla's upcoming Houston Megafactory starting in late 2026. 50 GWh annual manufacturing capacity when fully ramped. • 5 MWh of usable AC energy • Weight: 86,000 lbs • 28 foot long enclosure that can be shipped globally • Optimized for up to 8-hour applications • New drastically simplified thermal bay. Uses Model Y heat pump, but on steroids. 78% fewer connections, which minimizes failure points • Larger battery module and larger battery cell • 2.8 liter battery cell, co-engineered with Tesla's cell team • LFP battery • Operates in -40°C to 60° • Went from 24 cable connections in Megapack version 2XL, down to 3 simple busbar connections • 75% of the mass of Megapack 3 is battery cells. • A single module in it weighs as much as a Cybertruck • Tesla has enabled easier front access service, so there are no roof penetrations • Drastically simplified bussing system

Garage Warfare at Sea: Lessons from Ukraine for the Pacific In a potential Pacific conflict, one near-certain outcome will be the neutralization of major shipyards. This differs from World War II precisely because long-range precision weapons like those of today did not exist back then. Large shipyards will be heavily targeted by missiles, leaving only smaller, less visible facilities operational to repair smaller vessels. The ability to conduct major repairs on large warships will be lost early in the conflict, that’s my prediction. In 2022 and 2023, much of the media and analyst attention focused on the industrial capacities of Russia and Ukraine. I published several reports on the subject at the time. After Russia intensively bombed Ukrainian industry throughout 2023 and into 2024, Ukraine effectively lost most of its industrial base, retaining only small workshops and a few underground facilities with minimal capacity beyond basic repairs. This fueled the explosive growth of the drone industry, which expanded relentlessly in garages and small shops, evolving into over 500 companies today producing everything from motors to software. There was no shortage of targets, with Russia deploying thousands of vehicles on the front lines. I foresee the same dynamic in a Pacific conflict: without major shipyards for large repairs or new construction, decentralized production of USVs, UAVs, and UUVs will surge in small boatyards and facilities with pier access. Just as land targets were plentiful in Ukraine, maritime targets will be abundant at sea. Future one-way UUVs, USVs, or even UAVs will be lighter than today’s thanks to solid-state batteries weighing roughly one-third less, while CL-20-based explosives will significantly increase tandem warhead power, allowing strikes on critical parts of targets. Hundreds or thousands of a variety of unmanned systems could be produced weekly across dozens or hundreds of small maritime workshops, a natural, organic process, exactly as we witnessed in Ukraine. The success or failure of this model will hinge on maintaining supply chains for this network of small producers. Assuming that large warships and major shipyards will remain operational in a high-intensity missile conflict in the Pacific is, in my view, overly optimistic. It’s time to start thinking seriously about how to fight a war with few ships and against thousands of unmanned threats.

Jeff Bezos reveals why sleeping 4 hours a day would make him a worse CEO, not a better one: "On sleep I get 8 hours of sleep. I prioritize it unless I'm traveling in different time zones. Sometimes it's impossible but I am very focused on it. I think better, I have more energy, my mood is better" "Think about it as a senior executive, what do you really get paid to do? You get paid to make a small number of high-quality decisions. Your job is not to make thousands of decisions every day" "Let's say that I slept 6 hours a day. Well, let's go really crazy and say I slept 4 hours a day. Now I just got four so-called productive hours back. If I was going to have 12 hours of productive time during any waking day, now all of a sudden I have 16 productive hours. So I have 33% more time to make decisions. If I was going to make a hundred decisions, now I can make 133 decisions" "Is that really worth it if the quality of those decisions might be lower because you're tired or grouchy or any number of things?" "It's different if it's a startup company. When Amazon was a hundred people it's a different story. But Amazon's not a startup company and all of our senior executives operate the same way I do. They work in the future. They live in the future" "None of the people who report to me should really be focused on the current quarter. Sometimes we'll have a good quarterly conference call and Wall Street will like our quarterly results and people will stop me and say congratulations on your quarter. I say thank you, but what I'm really thinking is that quarter was baked three years ago. Right now I'm working on a quarter that's going to reveal itself sometime in the future" "Why do I need to make a hundred decisions today? If I make three good decisions a day that's enough. And they should just be as high quality as I can make them. Warren Buffett says he's good if he makes three good decisions a year"

Truckload spot rates hit new all-time high: this is not SCOTUS related, it is compliance crackdown + reindustrialization. We are week into SCOTUS and this is what we've learned (all over the board tbh): - Large brokers tell us they are getting more commitments from shippers, not less. Shippers are concerned that they are next and want protection. - Managed trans appears to be a massive winner. - Some shippers are reevaluating small carriers (due to compliance risks and cost) and looking to move more freight through large brokers, not less. While others have stopped loading brokers altogether. - Large shippers are already evaluating their brokers for financial viability and requesting larger insurance policies. - Asset-carriers tell us that what eats them alive isn't the big lawsuits, but the very small claims and wonder if brokers will be pulled into the small claims that are handled outside of insurance, which could result in 1-2 claims/1000 loads. At a cost of $20k each, that could result in $20-40/load just in administrative costs of dealing with small claims. - Insurance costs are going up for brokers, but no one really knows how much. Ranges we are hearing is 3-10x. - Conditional safety rating is really difficult for small carriers due to the slow resolution of those ratings at the FMCSA, which is overwhelmed and under resourced - We had our first lawsuit involving a large broker that was previously thrown out under summary judgement amended to include the freight broker

Tommy Robinson tried to appeal against his incarceration conditions and the following details have emerged: He gets 3 hours out of his cell every day - when he can exercise, use the gym or play recreational games such as pool. He gets another 2 hours and 45 minutes, 3 times a week when he does painting and decorating work. He has "significantly more visit time than any other prisoner", with 2 hours, 4 times a week, in a room described as "more informal and comfortable", where he can take in food he's bought from the canteen. He has 120 people on his visitors list and has had 93 visits. He can use the phone for 4 hours a day and has made more than 1,250 social calls. He has a television, a laptop - on which he receives emails "in their hundreds" - a CD player and a DVD player in his cell. He attends a weekly bible session and has daily visits from a member of the chaplaincy team and daily visits from an NHS doctor or nurse. As someone who was locked up for 9 months for exposing a rape gang - and spent 6 weeks in TOTAL solitary confinement - let me tell you, this in NOT EVEN prison, LET ALONE segregation. When I was in solitary I had ZERO time outside of my cell other than to shower (which was a narrow concrete wet room that I was locked into from the outside) or to walk alone around a tiny square yard with high wire fencing all around it ONCE in 6 weeks. NO visits, NO Bible sessions, NO gym, NO pool, NO laptop, NO emails, NO CD player, NO DVD player, NO daily chaplaincy visits, NO daily NHS doctor or nurse visits, NO 3 hours out of my cell, NO 2 hours with friends and family, NO 2 hours 45 mins painting and decorating, NO 4 hours of phone time every day, I WAS NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO ATTEND CHURCH DURING EASTER. Tommy was adamant that he would rather go to prison for contempt of court than to take down his video about a schoolboy. Whether you like it or not, this was his decision. Of course, Tommy fans will say that he should not be locked up (despite him pleading guilty to contempt of court)... But please do not pretend that he is languishing down the block! The man is enjoying more leisure time than most of us on the outside who are working full-time jobs. If he is struggling to cope with ALL of those privileges, he wouldn't last 5 MINUTES in a real jail, take it from someone who knows.

Operators just wrapped our first ever Mastermind day. 20 brands represented. 30 people. Invite only. A highly curated list of people. More than $4B in GMV in the room. This event was very private. Nothing was recorded so people could be ridiculously open with anything they wanted to talk about. We will 100% do more events like this one. Our idea for this was simple… Most events are only valuable because of the time in-between. The private dinners. The chats in the hallways. So we held an event that was just the time in-between. We had some small group breakouts, but otherwise it was time to just hang with great people. Make new friends. Go deeper with existing. I’m so damn bullish on small events like this. AppLovin was kind enough to pick-up the cost for the event. They are seriously awesome partners for us. Massive thank you to Paul & Lisa from BK Beauty for opening up their home the night before and hosting this group of misfits. Katy Mimari was very, VERY generous in letting us all spend the entire day at her lake house outside of Austin. Couldn’t ask for a better venue for something like this. She set the bar very high for anything we do in the future. Yes, we'll do another event like this in the coming months. No, you can't register or apply. For now, these are invite / referral only.

It’s clear that the UCP government does not care about the needs of Calgarians. Just 34 days ago, the UCP promised that funding for the Green Line was “100 per cent” secure, even for the new shorter version. Now they've decided to pull their funding. This reckless decision could mean the end of a badly needed transit project and a massive waste of over $1 billion that has already been spent as construction is well underway. The UCP has chosen to give up 20,000 jobs directly associated with this project, including 1,000 people employed today who will be thrown out of work by this decision. Not to mention all the private sector jobs that will come from the redevelopment and densification of lands surrounding the future stations. Let’s be clear. This decision will drive both public and private sector investment out of Calgary and Alberta because there is no certainty. Who will ever bid on projects if the province’s signature is no longer worth anything and they can pull funding at will? They are pretending they are looking at new options, but we’ve seen this movie before. Minister Dreeshen’s proposed alignment has been studied. And studied. And studied. It won’t work. It dumps SE commuters nowhere near where they need to be and expects them to trudge to a red or blue line station to get on a train that is already packed. It’s a dream from someone who has clearly never taken transit in Calgary. The UCP government has chosen to make this a political issue. The UCP wants to make this about me. It’s not about me — it’s about doing the right thing for the tens of thousands of Calgarians that will be hurt by this decision. As always, the UCP would rather pick a fight than win for citizens. The Green Line is a required investment for the future of Calgary. It’s an investment in ending the congestion on Deerfoot and Stoney Trails, and the Centre Street corridor. It’s an investment in the environment, in quality of life, in getting people to and from work, and kids to and from school. We simply have to look at the congestion nightmare that is Toronto today because that city didn’t invest in transit when they should have. This is untenable and the people of Calgary deserve better than to be used as a political football. The premier needs to intervene directly, take control of this file from her minister and advisors and work with the city to find a way forward.

There’s a scene from the 1960 film version of The Time Machine that has been haunting my dreams of late. In the film, the Time Traveller (Rod Taylor) has traveled almost a million years into the future, expecting that when he arrived he would find an advanced civilisation marked by the pursuit of learning. Instead, he finds the Eloi, a race of simple creatures in togas who are bred like cattle, and eaten, by the subterranean Morlocks. In the film’s most harrowing scene, he’s taken by one of the Eloi to a centuries-old library housing the last books in existence, which crumble to dust in his hands. “What have you done?” the Time Traveller demands, as the dreams of centuries turn to ash. “Thousands of years of building and rebuilding, creating and recreating! A million years, the sensitive men dying for their dreams, for what? So you can swim, and dance, and play.” In the last couple weeks I see a lot of men on this platform arguing with a straight face that we should let AI generate our writing for us, that it’s the future, that there’s no fighting it. And I need you all to know that THIS is the ultimate end of a world in which everyone has machines write for them. There will be no more thinking, no more creative expression, no more art or literature. It’s what C. S. Lewis called “the abolition of man.” We will be no different from cattle and our libraries will turn to dust. When ease and entertainment become the highest good, it’s not shocking that people will find clever ways to avoid work and study. But nor should it be surprising when the ultimate fate of the Eloi becomes our own.

Today, we're launching Base Core, our own battery designed & built in Texas, and announcing our $1B Series D to bring it to homes across the country. Three years ago, we started Base with a belief that batteries were the unlock to energy abundance. We saw battery storage as the foundation of a modern energy system, and believed we could win the market with vertical integration, technology, and relentless execution (what we now call Base Pace). So we set out to build a network of distributed batteries to deliver affordable, reliable electricity to homeowners and utilities. While the job is far from finished, the launch of Base Core is the most meaningful step in that plan. We’ve spent the last few years learning hard lessons about building a distributed battery fleet, going from 1 install per day in June of ‘24 to 100 installs per day in June of ‘26. These lessons - how the battery is shipped, installed, used, and monitored - informed the design of Core. Now, Core will be the foundation of the company's next phase of growth. Base Core is a first-of-its-kind home battery. At ~40 kWh it is 3x the size of most home batteries, providing up to 36 hours of backup for the average home. In the event of multi-day outage, Core is equipped with a (first of its kind) generator port - pull out a small portable generator and charge the battery back up to keep your home running as long as you need. When an outage does happen, the backup is seamless - most members won't even notice the grid went down. It's built to withstand Texas summers, Chicago Winters, and everything in between. And finally, it’s manufactured by our team in Austin, at Base Factory 1, right across the street from our HQ. This new capital will bring Core to more homes and to accelerate our ambition beyond batteries. The round is co-led by Ribbit, Addition, Valor, and JP Morgan, with participation from new major investors D1, Sands, Coatue, Layer Global, and Energy Impact Partners. All of Base’s major existing investors are re-investing, including Thrive, Altimeter, Lightspeed, a16z, CapitalG, Trust, and more. This brings our valuation to $13B. As we enter the most important growth period in the history of the electricity industry, our mission has not changed - advance human prosperity by delivering the world's most affordable and reliable electricity. Our strategy has not changed - technology, plus vertical integration, plus relentless execution, leads to a compounding cost advantage. What has changed is the scope of our ambition - this new capital, along with the team and capabilities we've built over the last three years, positions us to build technology across the electric stack, including what it takes to serve surging demand from AI, and to deepen our partnerships with utilities as they work to meet rising demands. Electricity is the largest and most essential industry in the world, and it does not have a defining technology company. The company that delivers the most affordable, reliable power will be one of the largest and most impactful companies in the world. We intend to build it. If you'd like to join us, reach out. Onwards.

Palantir Exec Responds to Surveillance State Allegations david friedberg: “ There's a lot that's said about Palantir enabling a surveillance state. I just want to give you a chance to respond to that.” Palantir CTO Shyam Sankar (Shyam Sankar): “ We don't collect data, we don't have any data. It'd be like accusing Excel of being a surveillance tool, right? It's like, this is a way of bringing your own data that you have lawful authorities to collect together to make decisions. Sounds a lot like Excel. Because we are unabashedly patriotic and serve the US military, I think people have a kind of colored view of these things.” Anduril Co-Founder Trae Stephens (Trae Stephens): “I would argue that it is actually Excel with cell by cell security. Way more security.” Sankar: “As (Alex) Karp says, it’s the most insane platform in the world to try to do something illegal in, because you are going to be caught. That was part of the idea of how do you enhance privacy and security? How do you build more civil liberties protections in it? How do you have a normative view that enables a democracy to say, these are laws and rules, the system will enforce it, we're not just relying on people happening to do the correct thing? I think at the limit, it's actually kind of indefensible to have a perspective other than lawful use, because if you are salami slicing the policy, that's actually tyranny by tech bro. A small number of people are constraining the maneuver space of a democracy with no accountability to the populace. ------------------------------------------ Thanks to our partner for making this happen! NEWS: Ford has officially unveiled its new electric vehicle platform and its next-generation vehicle production system. Ford Universal EV Platform Details: • Reduces parts by 20% versus a typical vehicle, with 25% fewer fasteners, 40% fewer workstations dock-to-dock in the plant and 15% faster assembly time. • Ford says "Lower cost of ownership over five years than a three-year-old used Tesla Model Y." • Wiring harness in the new midsize truck; more than 4,000 feet (1.3 kilometers) shorter and 10 kilograms lighter than the one used in our first-gen electric SUV • Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) prismatic batteries enable space and weight and cost savings. It's a structural sub-assembly that also serves as the vehicle’s floor • The new midsize truck is forecasted to have more passenger room than the latest Toyota RAV4, even before you include the frunk and the truck bed. You can lock your surfboards or other gear in that bed – no roof rack or trailer hitch racks required • The new midsize truck will have a targeted 0-60 time as fast as a Mustang EcoBoost, with more downforce. Ford Universal EV Production System Details: • Transforming the traditional assembly line into an “assembly tree”. Instead of one long conveyor, three sub-assemblies run down their own lines simultaneously and then join together • Large single-piece aluminum unicastings replace dozens of smaller parts, enabling the front and rear of the vehicle to be assembled separately. • The front and rear are then combined with the third sub-assembly, the structural battery, which is independently assembled with seats, consoles and carpeting, to form the vehicle. • Parts travel down the assembly tree to operators in a kit. Within that kit, all fasteners, scanners and power tools required for the job are included. • Assembly of the new midsize electric truck could be up to 40% faster than Louisville Assembly Plant’s current vehicles. Some of that time will be reinvested into insourcing and automation to improve quality and cost, ultimately netting a 15% speed improvement. Ford: "A simple, efficient, flexible ecosystem to deliver a family of affordable, electric, software-defined vehicles – the first of which is a midsize, four-door electric pickup that will be assembled at Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant for U.S. and export markets. Its launch is scheduled for 2027. It will have a target starting MSRP at about $30,000 USD." Ford says it is going to deliver a family of affordable, adaptable electric vehicles that offer multiple body styles for work and play — including for export — and whose LFP batteries will be assembled in America, not imported from China. Additional specifications for the midsize electric truck – including reveal date, starting price, EPA-estimated battery range, battery sizes and charge times – will be communicated later. Ford’s $2B investment in their Louisville Assembly Plant is in addition to its previously announced $3 billion investment in BlueOval Battery Park Michigan, which will build the prismatic LFP batteries for the midsize electric truck starting next year. Together, the investments total approximately $5 billion, and between the two plants, Ford expects to create or secure nearly 4,000 direct jobs.

Self-confidence isn’t something you’re born with, it’s built. Here’s how you can strengthen yours starting today. 1. Keep promises to yourself Every time you set a goal and achieve it, no matter how small, you tell yourself, “I can trust me.” Start with simple tasks like waking up on time or finishing a book, and watch your confidence grow. 2. Embrace discomfort Confidence doesn’t come from staying in your comfort zone. Take small steps outside of it daily. Speak up in meetings, try a new hobby, or strike up a conversation with someone new. 3. Focus on progress, not perfection The fear of failure destroys confidence. Celebrate progress instead of perfection. Studies from the American Psychological Association show that focusing on improvement boosts self-belief over time. 4. Surround yourself with positivity Confidence is contagious. Surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you. Dismiss those who feed your insecurities. 5. Speak kindly to yourself The words you say to yourself shape your reality. Replace “I can’t” with “I’m learning” and “I’ll never” with “I will figure it out.” Positive self-talk rewires your brain for confidence. Confidence isn’t a gift, it’s a skill. Start building it one decision, one action, and one belief at a time. The stronger your self-confidence, the more unstoppable you become.
