Here’s the full story: Burrell is a Bloods gang member. He was convicted of murdering 11 year old Tyesha Edwards, who was sitting at her kitchen table doing homework. Burrell was trying to shoot a rival gang member, but Edwards was hit in the crossfire. Burrell was sentenced to life in prison, but maintained his innocence (rest assured, he was super guilty). A steady drumbeat by the “defund the police” crowd eventually led to Gov Tim Walz and AG Keith Ellison foolishly commuting his sentence in 2020 after he did 18 yrs in prison. They released a hardened criminal who has no remorse. Releasing a murderer is bad enough, but that’s not where the story ends. Beginning in May 2020, Burrell’s Bloods gang took over the George Floyd square, leading to multiple shootings and crime. As a federal prosecutor, I charged the Bloods and Myon Burrell’s brother, Michael Burrell, for these crimes, including murder. Meanwhile, during the riots, Kamala Harris solicited money for a MN Freedom Fund, which gave bail money to free criminals and rioters. In Aug 2023, after being off probation for 3 months, Burrell was caught by police in Hennepin County with an illegal gun and drugs. He could not be charged by the Hennepin County Attorney due to a conflict-of-interest because Mary Moriarty, who is horrible at her job, hired Burrell to be a paid advisor on her 2022 campaign. In May 2024, Burrell was arrested a second time while out on bail, this time after selling fentanyl. He got caught with more drugs and $60k in drug proceeds.
