2022 Hanskhali Minor Rape Case CM Mamata Banerjee had initially called it a “love affair” and questioned whether the minor girl was already pregnant. Today, the court has convicted nine people, including the son of a TMC leader, in the gang rape case. The High Court had transferred the case to the CBI after Mamata Banerjee victim-shamed the minor and assassinated her character. This was not the only instance where Mamata Banerjee questioned a victim’s character. She had also made remarks questioning the character of the Park Street rape victim.

Reacting to the matter, TMC MP Kirti Azad says, "It is not shocking or breaking news that a case has been registered against TMC chief Mamata Banerjee. We will all have to go through such cases, whether they are fake or real. The question, however, is that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah came to West Bengal, they also made many speeches that could have been subject to a lot of disapproval and objections. Statements like 'ulta karke seedha kardena' (hang them upside down to straighten them out) and 'Bengal police sambhal jao' (Bengal police, behave yourself) were made by Amit Shah a couple of times. West Bengal CID has issued a fresh notice to TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in a case related to alleged inflammatory speeches and purported threats against Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the Assembly election campaign. The case, which was initially being investigated by Bidhannagar Cyber Police Station, has now been taken over by the CID. Banerjee has been asked to appear before investigators on June 16.
