Highlights of The Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha (Amendment of Insurance Laws) Bill, 2025 are: ✅There is a need to spread insurance awareness among people so that they can not only avail themselves of insurance to cover their risks but also receive their legitimate dues. The Policyholders’ Education and Protection Fund, which is being created out of the penalties levied by IRDAI, will be utilised for this purpose. ✅Better regulatory oversight of insurance companies' affairs will help ensure the orderly conduct of the insurance business. ✅We are introducing One-time registration for insurance intermediaries that would ensure uninterrupted services to citizens; promote ease of doing business for service providers, reduces regulatory delays and administrative compliance burden for intermediaries. ✅Our country needs further capital infusion into the insurance sector. This will ensure that we benefit from better technology, world-class risk assessment models and the best insurance products available anywhere in the world. The proposed removal of the upper cap on FDI in the insurance sector will be a significant enabler in meeting these objectives. We are thereby creating a conducive business environment for these entities. ✅We are standardizing the regulation-making process by introducing Standard Operating procedure for regulation making and mandatory public consultation on all regulations by IRDAI to ensure that the process is consultative and transparent. - Smt Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha. Insurance is the biggest aspect of personal finance that the vast majority of Indians struggle with. One big reason is a lack of awareness about insurance, rampant misselling complexity, spam, etc. Health insurance and life insurance (term insurance) are the only two products most people need. But the products that are sold the most are ULIPs and other traditional products that promise both insurance and investments but offer the worst of both worlds, not to mention the ridiculous commissions. To make insurance simple for you, we recently hosted an AMA with Shrehith Karkera, co-founder of Ditto Insurance. As he beautifully put it: "Buying life insurance is the kindest gesture you can offer to your dependents and family because when you ask most people what's the most important thing in life, they say family yet most of them won't have term insurance. Florida’s homeowners insurance market is broken. Here’s my plan to fix it: Hurricane and wind risk can make up 60–70% of a homeowners insurance bill. So instead of forcing every Florida family to pay private insurers to take on that enormous risk: • Florida creates one strong, state-backed hurricane fund. • We build that fund to a financially sound level and buy backup insurance for catastrophic storms. • We fund it by making insurance companies pay the taxes they currently avoid, along with other revenue sources that don’t put the burden back on homeowners. • Private insurers no longer have to price as much hurricane risk into your policy, potentially cutting homeowners insurance costs by 60–70%. Floridians don’t need yet another explanation for why insurance is so expensive. We need a plan to fix it.
