In our Urban Development and Municipal Affairs departments, we have taken the principle decision that parking on both sides of the road, which has continued illegally for 15 years, will now be regulated. Parking will be allowed only on the designated side of the road, while parking on the other side will not be permitted. Secondly, parking fees are being collected illegally in parking lots, and taxes from these collections are not being paid to the government. These illegal collections must be stopped immediately so that the entire tax amount goes to the government. Also, the helpline number was not only a women’s helpline number; it was a child helpline number. The same number should now be integrated as a women’s helpline number as well. If anyone faces any problem, both the women’s helpline and child helpline numbers should remain active. In both the Women and Child department and the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs department, a call centre should be set up so that the public can call these two departments and share their issues and grievances. She adds, "Lastly, wherever there is pollution, we have seen over the last 15 years in Bengal, in Kolkata and Asansol, that garbage is lying everywhere and is not being cleaned. Now this responsibility is also being given to the public through geotagging. We have developed an app where people can send geotagged pictures, and within two hours the corporation or municipality will come and clean the area. But along with this, I also need the cooperation of the public. We should not throw garbage on the roads. Prevention is better than cure. Today, I joined the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat Obafemi Hamzat, his wife, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat, and other stakeholders, during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in FESTAC, Amuwo-Odofin LGA. Lagos is intensifying efforts to build a more efficient, sustainable and accountable waste management system across the State. With over 200 compactor trucks that the state government has just acquired to strengthen waste evacuation, the Ministry is also working round the clock to address challenges at landfills, dumpsites and critical waste collection points, while continuing engagements with PSP operators to improve service delivery. We recognise that residents’ willingness to pay for waste collection is directly linked to the quality and reliability of the services provided. Our intervention is therefore focused on ensuring that the system works better for everyone. We must also discourage the patronage of unregulated cart pushers, whose activities often result in indiscriminate dumping on medians, roads and drainage channels, with serious consequences for the environment and flood management. A cleaner Lagos requires a collective effort. Government will continue to provide the leadership, infrastructure and regulation needed, but residents must also take responsibility by properly disposing of their waste and keeping their surroundings clean - not only on sanitation days, but every day. #CleanerLagos

Do not react to hooting, insults, rude gestures or aggressive driving, and avoid making eye contact with an angry driver. The illegal dumping problem worsens in Calgary, particularly in northeast communities Couches, mattresses, construction debris, and bags of garbage dumped along roadsides have become an increasingly common sight in parts of Calgary. According to the City of Calgary, illegal dumping has “become more severe in recent years, particularly in northeast communities.” Calgarian Nick King has been documenting the problem after repeatedly encountering piles of illegally discarded garbage while making furniture deliveries. Videos shared by King show large amounts of household waste abandoned in public areas. CityNews has also documented the problem, including couches, mattresses, chairs, and other household items left behind. A vehicle passenger shared this video with us the other day showing young scooter riders traveling on 204th Street. What we see in this video is exactly why we have been raising safety concerns for months. These scooters are capable of speeds in excess of 40 MPH, and we are seeing young people operating them on busy state highways. In this video, riders are following too closely (and being followed too closely) and riding in the middle lane of a state highway, which is currently illegal. The helmets being worn also may not provide adequate protection in a crash at the speeds these vehicles can reach. This isn't about pointing fingers. It's about keeping people safe. Parents, please know what your children are riding, where they are riding and how fast these vehicles can travel. Talk to them about the risks and make sure they understand the rules of the road. We all have a responsibility to look out for one another and find a solution before another young person is seriously injured or killed. That is why DCSO is being so vocal about this challenge and working with our community partners and the Legislature to develop common-sense, comprehensive policies that are clear, understandable and focused on safety. Our goal is simple: keep our roads safe and keep our young people alive.

When driving and you suddenly sight men in uniform and guns, either soldiers in Army camouflage, police, or paramilitary uniforms standing on the express in an isolated area, slow down from afar and scan the area for proper visibility. If the road is a two lane express, ensure both sides of the road where the uniform men are standing are not covered with bush. If the both sides of the road is covered with thick and over grown grass, please it is a red flag. Before soldiers, police, civil defence, immigration or customs set up checkpoints or road blocks in the middle of nowhere, they will properly clear the bushes on one side, or on both sides of the road where they intend to mount their road block. They will build makeshift shades or seats. They may build makeshift shelter and create a proper space for vehicles to park. At a certain distance, the road block will be very visible to you as a motorists. HERE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT. If you see such road blocks, please check both sides of the road if there is a stationed vehicle of the officers. For such an isolated roadblock there must be a well branded vehicle of the organisation parked by the side of the road for easy identification, confidence, and protection assurance. If the men who blocked the road are on Army camouflage, you will see a well branded Army Hilux parked by the side of the road. If they are on police uniform, you will see a well branded police vehicle parked by the side of the road. If they are on customs, immigration or civil defence uniform, you will see their branded vehicles parked by the side of the road. The vehicle is for proper identification and protection assurance. Please note: on such isolated road blocks or checkpoint, they will never use unbranded vehicles, unmarked vehicles, or private cars. If you don't see a branded vehicle of the force parked by one side of the road when you sight such road blocks from a distance, it a big red flag.
