Today, we’re sharing more curriculum plans with schools nationwide. They include: 👩🎨 Art & Design 🌐 Citizenship 💻 Computing 📐 D&T (plus food & nutrition) 🇪🇸 MFL 🎷 Music 🏑 PE 📿 RE Go have a look 👇
The plans are designed to inspire and help teachers deliver a broad, rigorous and engaging curriculum. We’ll roll out lesson resources for each of these subjects across the year. Read more here:
They join our existing plans in maths, English, science, history and geography that we released last year. All of the resources for those subjects are available now for teachers.
Why is this a first? We now have a high-quality lesson-level model of the entire KS1-4 national curriculum, with explainers for each subject. I’ve seen versions with big subjects only, some key stages, or high-level but not every lesson level. I’ve never seen the whole thing 🤩
In 2019, the UK signed the UNESCO recommendation to release all publicly funded education content on an open licence - meaning anyone can use it for free. We believe Oak will be the first publication of a fully resourced, openly licensed entire national curriculum in the world!
By the way, if we’re wrong on this, please let us know - we’ve searched hard but can’t find any other examples that cover all subjects and all key stages!
Why is that important? Two-thirds of teachers who use @OakNational use it to inspire their school’s curriculum, adding or swapping units, or changing the sequence of topics. 71% have applied ideas and models they’ve learnt from Oak to improve their own teaching.
Having models helps teacher expertise: one of the most important things to improve outcomes, esp for the most disadvantaged pupils. It also helps with workload. Oak users have lower workloads, higher well-being, and are more likely to see themselves staying in teaching. Win-win.
A reminder: The plans we’re sharing today are not our own. They are the work of our brilliant partners - from brilliant schools, charities, subject associations, publishers and even a trade union. And they’ve had scrutiny and prodding from teachers and experts.
We’re privileged to share their brilliant work with schools across the country. So have a rummage around. Our plans might not be right for your school. That’s fine. But you might just find some inspiration for where you want to take your curriculum next…
