SpaceX now has over 10,000 Starlink satellites in orbit (and growing), providing internet data service to every corner of the earth. Even ships at sea or aircraft in the sky can receive high speed internet service. Over 2/3 of the active satellites in orbit are Starlink now. And it won't create any long term trash in orbit. The orbits are so low (480 km to 550 km) that even if SpaceX were to lose control of one, the small satellites will run out of fuel within 5 years. Then they get dragged back into the atmosphere and burn up. Every satellite is in a lane to avoid other Starlink satellites. They all are connected to a collusion avoidance system and can make small course adjustments if needed. Starlink can provide high speed internet anywhere on the planet without having to bury expensive fiber cables underground or undersea. All you need is a small dish which scans the sky for the closest satellite to provide internet connectivity.

It is a reflection that when 25% of global trade decides to strengthen the strategic partnership, including with the free trade agreement, it unlocks the doors to defence cooperation, greater investments, to cooperation in the field of innovation and science to further integration of financial markets. Therefore, I would term this visit, as very rightly pointed out by the foreign secretary as a game-changing and transformational visit in terms of the strategic partnership between Europe and Union and India..."

Farewell to International Space Station! This is truly a special place, special mission, and special team that makes it happen. It is a bittersweet departure today – I have a keen awareness that I may never be back here, and even if I was, it would be at a different time with a different crew. This chapter is over. Spaceflight has always been a life goal, and it has turned into a life-fulfilling endeavor – but not for the reasons I thought growing up. When I was young, I pictured the launch, the incredible ball of fire and the acceleration, the spacewalks (how could you not wonder what it’s like to be in that suit?), and I was fascinated by the shuttles, capsules, and stations. But as I complete this second mission living and working in space, what draws me to this job is the people. Experiences like this are amazing, but the relationships we build that make it possible are the “why.” Every day, this mission depends on people from all over the world, of different nationalities, races, religions, and cultures. It depends on government and commercial entities, it depends on all political parties, and it depends on commitment to an unchanged goal over many years and decades. It depends on people dedicated to being part of something bigger than themselves, whose names may never be known but who wake up every day to make the world a better place and to be part of something they will be proud to tell their grandkids about. History will look kindly upon them. Humans have always had a propensity to explore … across lands and oceans, up mountains, and into the sky. We as a species will never stop wondering what else is out there, and what it would be like to go. But then, in the words of TS Elliot, “…at the end of all our exploring, will be to arrive where we started, and know the place for the first time.” Crew-10 is on its way home.

What a spot for a trail camera! We put this camera out on a small footpath this winter for the first time just out of curiosity. We do a lot of trial and error to find good spots that wolves like to use often. The little trail is pretty close to the intersection of 3 different pack territories and we figured it might be a good place…and it was. We captured more footage of wolves and other animals on this camera that are not in this video. This video is just the highlights. Most of the other videos are at night. Notably, for every camera like this that gets great footage, we probably have 4 or 5 that are duds…and since they are duds, we don’t share that footage online!

There is one professor alive who explains it the way nobody else can. His name is Gilbert Strang. MIT. The most brilliant mathematical mind of his generation. His textbook sits in over 10 million homes. No other person on earth holds this combination of depth and clarity in one head. He opens with one confession. The Fourier transform is unreasonably effective. It solves problems it was never designed for. The goal is not to compute it. The goal is to understand why it works at all. Then the core idea. A periodic signal breaks into pure sine waves. Each with a frequency, amplitude, and phase. The transform finds all three simultaneously. A complicated signal in time becomes a simple picture in frequency. Then 1807. Fourier invented the transform not for sound but for heat. How does warmth spread through a metal rod? In time the equation is a partial differential equation - hard. In frequency space it becomes ordinary - easy. Transform in, solve it, transform back. Then convolution. Convolution in time equals multiplication in frequency. Filtering a signal, removing noise, compressing audio - all multiplication in frequency space. Without the transform: thousands of computations. With it: a few multiplications. Then the delta function. Zero everywhere except one point where it is infinite. Integral equals one. Every mathematician in 1900 said it was not a function. Dirac used it anyway. It took 40 years to justify what engineers had been doing the whole time.
