Today, humanlayer is joining Factory. HumanLayer is a multiplayer coding agent IDE and cloud for running agents locally or in the background. Together, with dex and Kyle Mistele 🏴‍☠️ we're building the future of software factories for entire engineering teams.

As part of the acquisition, we are open sourcing HumanLayer and inviting all HumanLayer customers to Factory. The current HumanLayer platform will remain up and running during a transition period of at least 30 days, where we will support users in any or all of: exporting their data, migrating to Factory, or self-hosting the HumanLayer open source.

Welcome to the team @dexhorthy and @0xblacklight! Let's build. Read more:

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight WOOOOOOOO

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight Two coding tool acquisitions before lunch huh? At this pace we'll have 3 companies left, all called Software Factory

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight hugeeeeeee congrats

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight doing gods work🫡

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight congrats!!

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight Thats sick congrats

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight damn..

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight wow congrats to everyone, incredible teamup!

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight Congrats!

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight Local vs background agents splits for me on credentials. Background runners get short-lived, per-task tokens and never the dev's own keys. Curious whether the cloud side scopes secrets per run.

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight Will teams share the same agent session across local and background runs?

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight LFG @dexhorthy and @0xblacklight !

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight Wow, congrats @dexhorthy !

Multiplayer coding agents only click for me when the cloud run feels as immediate as local editing, because I have watched background agents drift while I waited for a status update. I will judge this by whether a whole team can stay in the same agent session without stepping on each other.

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight We actually went deeper on this acquisition and what it means for the future of software factories here:

@humanlayer_dev @dexhorthy @0xblacklight THIS IS INSANE
