Today I finally figured out how to do dynamic lighting on PS1... 🤠 Probably not very usable for games with tons of geometry (waaay too slow). But could be cool to use for some menu effects (like rotating items in Silent Hill inventory).

Finally found a good spot to show this Destroyer Thruster tech! (Not game-breaking, I promise.) If you let go of your movement inputs while thrusting, you won't clamber. That means you can ramp up certain surfaces! For clarity, your inputs should be: - (whatever movement you need to set up) - Thruster - AFTER Thruster starts, let go until you collide with the object and go airborne. If all goes well, you'll just pop up like I do. You probably don't even need a smooth ramp, you could realistically abuse some map geometry for some cool jumps. I used these blue tank things as an example, but I'd be willing to bet you could slam yourself into a ton of different objects for easy air. I'll need to do more testing. This feels really similar to some old tricks you could with Halo Reach's evade. It's pretty cool being able to apply old Halo knowledge here on Marathon. Anyway, let me know what you think!

Like I know it’s not out yet so it could be changed, but I really don’t think it was worth losing the sense of place, composition, cohesion, clarity, appeal and communication from the original in exchange for messy lighting and cool camera tricks.

I took some time to update grab pass and ssao for poiyomi 10.0, and I finally figured out how to make the screenspace effects completely stable even when resolution, fov, and size change. What you see in Unity should now be exactly what you get in VR, on desktop, in the camera, etc... The refraction example is poiyomi 10.0 on the right

I hope they do something special for the rotoscope scenes, either something visual or audible.. because they are such an important part of the horror that it’d be a shame to not highlight them like the games do. there’s an opportunity to do something very cool with this.
