Today I led a debate calling for better autism and learning disability training for education staff. National Autistic Society research reveals 87% of educators feel confident teaching autistic pupils but 7 in 10 autistic children said school would be better if more teachers understood autism.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training for health and social care staff is already law and improving the understanding of staff and experience of patients in health and social care settings. This could make a big difference in nurseries, schools and universities @educationgovuk

Thank you for calling this debate. We were pleased to hear MPs from a number of parties advocate for mandatory autism training. Our charity will continue to emphasise how urgently this is needed.
