Taming the Edge: How lithium could help us control #fusion plasmas. This video captures the first flashes of lithium being injected into the #plasma of our ST40 tokamak, marking the start of our exploration into its effects. Why lithium? In fusion research, we aim for H-mode, a high-performance state with improved plasma confinement. Future fusion power plants are expected to operate in this mode. But H-mode brings a challenge: ELMs (Edge Localised Modes) are bursts of energy at the plasma edge, similar to mini solar flares. These can reduce plasma temperature and damage the divertor with intense heat and particles. Pioneering work by PPPL and others has shown that lithium can suppress ELMs and increase energy confinement time, leading to higher temperatures. On ST40, we’re currently injecting lithium powder during plasma shots to explore its effects. As part of our upcoming ST40 LEAPS upgrade – in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy and Department for Energy Security and Net Zero – we’ll go further, coating plasma-facing components with solid lithium using the ‘lithium evaporation’ technique. We’ll be experimentally testing several mechanisms. One key focus is how lithium absorbs hydrogen isotopes and reduces their recycling back into the plasma, lowering the density at the plasma edge, leading to a more stable edge pressure gradient. We’re starting to understand more about lithium’s effect on plasma performance, and early results show lithium isn't getting into the plasma core, which is good news for avoiding diluting the fusion fuel in future plants. The physics is complex, and we’re still learning. But each step brings us closer to fusion energy. By incorporating lithium into ST40, the world’s highest field spherical tokamak, we’re advancing our understanding of this critical enabling technology. #Fusion #FusionEnergy #Innovation #Limitless #EnergyTransition

This is just days before it speculated that China flooded the market with cobalt in order to drive the prices down, causing Jervis to be unoperational. Here is a document on Jervis's website stating that they will be fully operational or they will resume testing and mining just days before the order came down for our farmers to quit using their water because there was a water shortage. There is no water shortage. There is a water reallocation. They are taking the water from the farmers, and they are allowing Jervis to use it. I spent last weekend at OHANAEZE FARM Ohanaeze FARM & Resort — the largest fenced livestock farm by land size in Southeast Nigeria. We’re building steadily and expanding every month, gradually onboarding more livestock as we work toward our bold target of 5,000 cows and 10,000 goats. During my visit, I commissioned our engineer to begin construction of our Pig Farm a major milestone in our journey. On the same day, I was also on-site with a plumbing team to kick off the installation of a large-scale irrigation system. This system will tap into the local Amanyi Stream to provide year-round irrigation for our pasturelands. The goal is to cultivate high-nutrient livestock grasses like Super Napier and leguminous forage crops, significantly reducing our monthly overhead costs on commercial feed. Our long-term goal is bold but clear: to meet 40% of the Southeast’s beef and meat demand through local production. We’re also establishing our own meat processing facility under our subsidiary brand, “BETANỤ” (BETANỤ), to ensure quality control and value addition across the supply chain. We’re inviting South East Development Commission, Mark Okoye , Dr. Cliff Ogbede , and other regional leaders to come see the impactful work we’re doing. We welcome strategic partnerships that can help us scale sustainably and create jobs across the region. The ranch currently sits on 410 plots of land — and we’re only just getting started! Our Breeding Facilities Was Destroyed by Fire This is probably one of the most unusual updates we have ever shared from our breeding program. A few weeks ago, a serious fire broke out at one of our European breeding facilities. The damage was extensive. Parts of the greenhouse were completely destroyed. Breeding rooms, equipment, electrical systems and infrastructure were heavily damaged by the fire and heat. Looking at the facility today, some areas are almost unrecognizable. For years, this place has been part of our breeding work. Thousands of plants have passed through these rooms. Selections were made here, generations were developed here, and a lot of the work behind genetics eventually released by Fast Buds happened inside these walls. And then, in a very short amount of time, a large part of it was gone. What happened? At this moment, the exact cause of the fire is still being investigated. There are obviously many questions, and we have heard different possibilities, but until the investigation is completed, we don’t want to speculate or point fingers at anyone. When we know more and are able to share it, we will. For now, the photos and videos speak for themselves. What did we lose? The physical damage to the facility is significant. Equipment can be replaced. Rooms can be rebuilt. Infrastructure can be installed again. The much more important question for us was what this meant for the breeding program itself. Fortunately, Fast Buds breeding was never dependent on a single building. Over the years, we deliberately expanded our breeding operations across different locations. Our second breeding facility in Thailand remains fully operational, and our breeding program continues there. That means this fire is a serious setback, but it does not stop our breeding work. Current projects continue. New generations continue. Testing continues. And the genetics we have spent years developing do not disappear because one building was damaged. Why we’re showing this Normally, when people see breeding online, they see the good part. Beautiful plants. New selections. Huge populations. Frosty flowers. Lab results. New releases. This is the other side of running a real breeding operation. Facilities fail. Equipment breaks. Crops don’t always behave the way you expect. Years of infrastructure can disappear incredibly quickly. And sometimes your breeding facility simply burns down. We’re not sharing this because we want sympathy. We’re sharing it because this is also part of our story. We have spent more than a decade building Fast Buds, and during that time we’ve had plenty of things go wrong. Every time, the answer has been pretty much the same: Fix the problem. Learn from it. Build again. What happens now? First, we are working with the relevant people to understand exactly what happened. Then comes rebuilding. We already know that we don’t simply want to recreate what was there before. If we have to build again, we’ll use the opportunity to improve the facility, rethink parts of the infrastructure and build something better suited to where our breeding program is today. Meanwhile, breeding continues in Thailand and across the rest of our operation. So yes — one of our breeding facilities burned. It looks terrible. It is a serious loss. But Fast Buds breeding isn’t going anywhere. We’ll rebuild. And we’ll keep you updated as we do.

GOOD NEWS 🚨 SpaceX has officially announced plans for a monumental new spaceport called Starbase Louisiana, and it looks like it is going to be one hell of a launch site 🚀 Representing a staggering investment of over $100 billion, this massive facility will span roughly 125,000 acres of coastal marshland in Vermilion Parish near Pecan Island, about 50 miles south of Lafayette. This project is fundamentally designed from day one to be the largest spaceport on Earth. At full buildout, the campus is expected to feature five launch complexes with two pads each, eventually hosting more than a dozen launch towers. Elon Musk confirmed that the facility is built to handle an unprecedented launch cadence of more than 30 Starship flights per day, meaning it could eventually support thousands of spaceflights a year. To realistically sustain that kind of rapid-fire launch schedule, Starbase Louisiana will operate as a fully self-sustaining mega-hub. The site will feature its own on-site propellant production and storage farms, dedicated power generation, deep-water shipping capabilities, vehicle processing facilities, and a private airport. SpaceX is even planning to construct residential housing directly on the sprawling campus for employees and their families. Construction on the new site is slated to begin in 2027, with the highly ambitious goal of launching the first Starship from the Louisiana Gulf Coast as early as 2029. The economic impact will be massive, initially creating over 3,000 direct, permanent jobs with an average annual salary of around $92,600. When factoring in indirect employment, the total number of jobs created is expected to easily push past the 10,000 mark. Beyond the aerospace infrastructure, SpaceX is making major commitments to environmental conservation in an area where the local shoreline currently erodes between 3.3 and 23 feet per year. The company is actively partnering with state and federal agencies to build wave-reducing breakwaters, rebuild thousands of acres of marshland using dredged sediment, and rigorously preserve the high-value coastal habitat for migratory birds and local wildlife. For space enthusiasts, the best part might just be the access. Instead of a locked-down industrial zone, Elon Musk explicitly promised that Starbase Louisiana will be designed with a visitor experience in mind, allowing the public to come out and watch these massive Starships fly, much like the legendary setup at Cape Canaveral.

Japan has just rendered an entire generation of conventional submarines obsolete, and the world hasn’t fully realized it yet. With the Taigei class and its lithium-ion batteries, Tokyo already set a new benchmark: up to three weeks submerged without ever raising a snorkel. That, however, was merely the opening act. Today, Toyota and Panasonic are leading the global race in solid-state batteries, with prototypes arriving in 2027–2028, mass production after 2030, and Japan’s next submarine class will be the first to use them, either in pure battery form or as a hybrid with a small reactor for onboard recharging. This hybrid would be similar to what the Chineses are developing. The leap is staggering. A 4,000 ton conventional submarine will patrol for 40 to 60 days without surfacing, sprint well above 20 knots for hours on end, and do it all more quietly than many nuclear subs, thanks to being significantly lighter and running solely on battery power. Solid-state cells weigh roughly one-third as much, generate 40 % less heat, and eliminate half the cooling systems. The result is a faster, stealthier hull that can travel thousands of kilometers without ever breaking the surface. Those hundreds of saved tons translate directly into more powerful electric motors, extra torpedoes and missiles, cutting-edge sensors, or greater crew comfort. The same hull now carries twice the energy or twice the weapons. It means that by 2035–2040, Japan will field conventional submarines with the endurance and sprint performance of today’s 8,000-ton nuclear boats, at one-third the cost and without the political baggage of uranium.

After 8+ years on the Tesla Autopilot team and 3 years at Intel, I started Apex Compute to design a new architecture for efficient AI inference. For the past 9 months, we’ve been building our custom inference accelerator. Today we’re releasing Unified Engine v1. Last June we raised our seed round with Maxitech , DeepFin Research, Soma Capital and an incredible group of angel investors. In less than 9 months, we completed our RTL architecture and brought our first pre-silicon prototype to life on FPGA. Our architecture combines systolic array and vector processing in a single compute engine with multiple architectural optimizations, achieving very high FLOPs utilization. A single engine is super lean and it uses less than 90K LUTs and 1 MB Block RAM. It may also be one of the smallest logic-footprint compute engines developed so far. Our Unified Engine v1 supports: -matrix-matrix multiplication (~95% FLOPs utilization) -softmax (~90% FLOPs utilization) -broadcast and element-wise operations -RMSNorm / LayerNorm -block quantization/dequantization (fp4, int4) -multi-engine synchronization and many other operations. We even implemented memory-efficient attention similar to FlashAttention, reaching ~90% FLOP utilization. Full benchmarks and the software stack are available on our GitHub: We have basic compiler written in Python and it supports PyTorch tensors directly to easily test and transfer tensors between the accelerator and host using bf16, fp4 and int4 formats. Our FPGA prototype can already run LLM inference and outperform NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano, even on a mid-tier FPGA setup (6.4x lower memory bandwidth, 18% slower clock speed at 4.5 Watts). Our GitHub includes low-level operator implementations, examples for tiled matrix multiplication, operation chaining, tensor parallelism, attention kernel and a full Gemma 3 1B model implementation. The vault has opened! In 2020, I started noticing some of my favorite Kelly videos were disappearing from the internet, or at least becoming much harder to find. Growing up as a Kelly fan who was terminally online, I remember browsing iconic fan sites like KC Kellyville, Kelly-Clarkson . net, Kelly Source, and so many more. These fan sites were places to connect with other Kelly fans, see all the latest Kelly-related news and rumors, and find any kind of Kelly media you could imagine. It truly was peak internet, for me at least. Fast forward to today, and the internet has largely traded these fan sites for social media. There are pros and cons to that, of course, but I think there is still value in creating spaces online like this. As search engines like Google make it increasingly harder to find that specific thing you’re looking for, and as social media becomes an ever-changing pit of data that’s equally as hard to sift through, The KC Vault feels even more necessary than it did when I first started uploading YouTube videos during the pandemic. With that, I’m excited to be re-launching the site featuring not only our video archives, but a new photo gallery as well. This will of course continue to grow as Kelly continues working and as I continue uncovering Kelly-related media to preserve. I’ve also added a blog to the site to easily keep up with all the latest Kelly news. This is just the beginning, and I’m excited about other features for this site that I’m hoping to share with you in the future. The KC Vault is my love letter to the previously mentioned Kelly fan sites I grew up loving, and I hope it is a great resource for all the Kelly fans for many years to come.
