Well -1 Super Efffective Brave Bird did about 70% into Tauros (75 HP/105 Def), so a +1 Non-Super Effective Brave Bird into Malamar (86 HP/88 Def) I would expect to do about the same damage with both Pokémon having similar bulk-oriented EVs.

I checked the calc. + 2 att mega staraptor OHKO Mega malamar though. ( Charm reduces the att by 2 stages) 🤔

Your hypothetical scenario almost played out, unfortunately the Staraptor once again found targeting the other Pokémon irresistible.

Whimsicott set up Tailwind at the start, that's equivalent to both Whimsicott and Staraptor being +2. Also Staraptor is dead at the end of the clip and Malamar is not, if you didn't notice.
