True, but thete are millions of sites that need a first class AI experience with Claude and WordPress. Those are not going away over night.

They should. I told my friend I moved all my wordpress sites over to 11ty so I could just have Claude Code do everything for me. He pretty much swtiched his 15 year old wordpress site over to Astro in less than a week letting Claude to all the work. Now it is faster and easier to maintain.

For WooCommerce shops: same story. WP is dead. Existing messy stores? Patch it with Claude tools for now. New or rebuild? Skip the bloat entirely. Use Medusa.js (open-source headless) + Astro/Next.js. Claude builds and maintains it 10x easier, faster, and cleaner. No plugins, no PHP. We have AI now. WordPress was the past.

When you say "Claude for X" do you mean @X or the variable X, because I actually did see a post about an MCP for X which I couldn't figure out how to set up.

but what is the difference that i use application password for claude code to access the site, then claude code manage the site via wp-cli, rest api

honestly, if that setup works for you, you've already got the core of it 👍 the main differences: we emulate wp-cli through php so it works on shared hosting too (where claude code + a raw app password can only reach rest, no shell), and there's a safety layer your diy setup doesn't have, approval gates on destructive stuff, draft → preview → publish themes, trash not delete. plus built-in skills (elementor, gutenberg, seo) so the AI knows how things store data, and it runs in the claude/chatgpt web apps, not just claude code. so for someone living in claude code, the gap's mostly guardrails + skills + no-ssh reach, not raw power

honestly? install the official one too, it's good and it's the same standard we both build on. the difference is WPVibe is hosted, so it runs right inside the claude/chatgpt web apps with no local node server to set up. it also goes past content: ~40 wp-cli commands, theme file editing, and draft → preview → publish, all behind approval gates with trash-not-delete. any host, ~30 seconds to connect. if you just need content ops though, the official plugin's plenty 👍

That all sounds good. I was trying to figure out what the official one is missing (e.g. theme file editing). What's the security implications of yours being hosted?

yeah, theme file editing and wp-cli are the big ones the official adapter skips. on the hosted part i'll just give you the honest version. hosted means your site's application password sits on our relay, encrypted at rest (AES-GCM), so the web AI clients can actually reach your site. the local adapter keeps that credential on your machine, but then claude or chatgpt web can't use it at all. that's the real tradeoff. few things that keep it contained: • it's an application password, not your login. it only acts as the wp user you authorize, so it's stuck with that user's permissions, and you can kill it in one click from wp-admin whenever you want • theme edits happen on a draft theme with a private preview url. your live theme doesn't get touched until you actually hit publish • anything irreversible (force delete, deleting a user, raw sql) stops and asks first, and shows you what it's about to hit like the row count. reversible stuff just keeps a revision or goes to trash • it doesn't go off on its own. it looks, shows you a preview, and waits for you to say go so really it's just which tradeoff you want. credential never leaves your machine (local), or works in any web AI from anywhere with an encrypted, revocable credential plus approval gates (hosted)

As a person who used to heavily rely on Wordpress, they are done for once people realize it’s better just just to build their own pages with AI/Claude with the same types of systems of Wordpress and no more reliance on modules by 3rd and 4th party developers.

fair take, and you're right that AI makes building from scratch way easier than it used to be. but most people aren't technical. "build your own with AI" still means hosting it, deploying it, securing it, and keeping it running, infrastructure the average site owner doesn't have the chops or the desire to manage. and those "3rd party modules" are millions of solved, maintained problems (payments, seo, forms, spam) you'd now own forever instead. wordpress + a host hides all of that. so my bet isn't wordpress vs AI, it's AI running the wordpress 40%+ of the web already has 👍

AI is not at all an easy to deploy option as is being marketed, you have to have some kind of ‘systems’ logic or previous ftp/html/php to build from. But for those that have been messing with Wordpress specifically, this should be an easy cross over.

We got Claude for WordPress... And people still think AI is a bubble 😭

glad you like it 🙌 honest answer: there's no git commit/push built in (yet). the flow is draft → preview → publish, and publish swaps the theme right on the connected site, keeping a backup of the old theme files so you can roll back. so it's not a git deploy pipeline. the theme files do live on the server though, so if you want git in the loop you can commit them from your side

"No second AI subscription" -- but your website has pricing. Is that if I *don't* use claude/chatgpt/etc and want to pay for usage of your AI? Or is that the price I need to pay in order to give Claude access?

Pricing is for more usage of our API. We do not charge for AI inference. You use your Claude or ChatGTP subscription for that? Let me know if that doesn't make sense and I can explain better.

The mechanism is elegant. Install the plugin on your WordPress site, it generates a secure MCP server URL, you add that URL to Claude Desktop once, and from that moment Claude can read and write your entire site through conversation. No dashboard switching. Just "update the meta descriptions on my last 10 posts" and it happens. 58 tools exposed through MCP covering the full WordPress content model, posts, pages, media, plugins, themes, SEO. (Weston Ruter) For anyone managing multiple sites this is not a convenience feature. It is a fundamentally different operations model. There are over 40 million WordPress sites running. The surface area this opens is enormous.

Giving Claude direct access to edit your live WordPress site creates serious risks of unintended or malicious changes.
